I am headed up to the duck camp to get things lined out for the opener.

I cut a bunch of cedar trees to use for the posts on the porch of my cduck call making house. After topping and bucking the tree we dragged the remnants to the blind and completely covered the blind top to bottom. This is a big blind and you can't see it anymore because of the thick brush stacked on top, front, sides and rear. On the opener we will just open up a couple shooting holes as we need them. That opening in front of my wife in this pic can't even be seen from across the pond or standing right in front.

On of my favorite pieces on this blind is on the toungue of the trailer. Look at the pic where I titled it backing her down. You can see a piece of plywood folded up against the blind. That is large enough for a large size dog crate. It folds down and a dog ladder folds from that to the ground. It is high enough to where whan standing in the blind you can simply reach out and open the door on the crate.

I came up with this because hunting is the worst place in the world for a trained dog. They pick up every bad habit known, because your attentions are elsewhere. This way, No breaking!!!! No worrying about your stuff in the blind getting wet. No shake shake when they get in the blind. It is a constant physical reminder to the dog that they have one job to do, when I tell them to do it.

If you need any advice on how to do this just ask. This one a very fun project. Even more fun to see the people looking at the redneck pulling it down the road behind the other trailer hooked to the Excursion.

Oh and the total cost in this was

A trailer gifted to me from a good friend. Go find a jun yard special, don't spend a whole lot on a trailer.
The tin was used from a junk yard and maybe 20 bucks.
I spent $50 on screws. Whoever thought I would get screwed buying screws

My Father loved that word doohickey, in fact he was a master doohickier himself. I only wish he was still around to see my new DeadBird sight because we used to discuss my idea in the dove fields of long ago.

I first started kicking this idea around about 50 years ago when I was only 16. My primary goal was to design a device that would help youngsters and other novice hunters could enjoy the sport of wing hunting without getting discouraged in the process. It wasn't until I retired a few years back that I had the time to pursue my idea.

You ask the question “does the DeadBird Sight work” and the short answer is yes, but is it a perfect science…heck no. Anyone that has ever wing hunted knows that there are simply too many variables at play when these little winged rockets are coming in for chow or just cruising above the treetops with a strong tail wind. Simply put, the DeadBird Sights are designed with a few simple calibrated marking that give the shooter a reasonable degree of accuracy and maybe even more important… consistency when targeting.

I would personally suggest the Duck Plucker II and the Lady Pro models for beginners because they are easier to use and will give the shooter confidence in their ability to hit their targets. These models are not designed for fast action shooting and would not be the best choice under those conditions.

For the more experienced hunters and even the older hunters like myself that are forced to wear progressive tri-focals I would highly recommend the LoCo IV with the mid-barrel support sight (MBSS). I designed this sight for fast action as well as long range shooting. Hone in your accuracy beforehand by adjusting your MBSS for approximately 4” of drop in 40 yard. After that, I think you will be amazed at how easy it is to align your sights and lock in for the tracking.

It’s my opinion that about 50% of the misses shooters make are due to shooting above or below the bird’s flight path and not necessarily due to miss leading. The MBSS greatly improves that sighting error while at the same time adjust the shot pattern to hit the target dead center.

One more thing, I had personally almost given up on wing hunting because I couldn't hit the outhouse. Fortunately, that all changed when I started using the LoCo VI along with the MBSS on my old Remington 1100. I’m still not much good but at least I do a respectable job which boosts my hunting sprite.
