My lab got sick when we were out in the field so I had to put this guy in. Not too bad for Tuff's first outing.

I really haven't had time to train him like I want to. He's four and a half months old and I have brought him a couple of times just to get him out there. During the hunt he could see the bird fall, run out there but couldn't quite put everything together. Then I had one I shot on purpose to land about 20 yards out so he could see it. When that happened you could see the light go off in his head. After that it was almost automatic. I shot a few that based on their speed fell 50-60 yards away and he went directly to them and brought them directly back to me. I'm really happy the light went off, I feel confident now.

He had a bandage on his paw and overnight he apparently ate it. It was a few wraps of gauze and the sticky athletic wrap. When we got up that morning I noticed it was gone but I figured he pulled it off and it was laying under his pillow. He has never eaten anything like that before, that's why I wasn't too concerned. When we got out in the field, he started eating grass really fast and had a weird look on his face. He walked about 10 yards away and threw up the gauze/wrap ball and his food. He immediately started acting better but I went ahead and put him in his crate and gave him the day off.

Bring those labs and retrievers out to do a field hunt for quail or pheasants. They might not point and they know how to hunt the field.
