I had feeder and camera setup on 40 ac north of Melissa and got one doe's pic over a 6 mo period. Feeder and camera loaded in Ranger for trip to Brown County. Who was that guy who said "Go West young man!"

I wonder if anybody leased it? He was totally unrealistic and I never could find anything on CAD that said he actually owned the parcel...

I hunted a place in Blue Ridge and there is quite a bit of pressure both legal and illegal. Lots of small parcels that people live on that don't seem to mind crossing fences to hunt the neighbors and steal game cameras. Saw a few deer and hogs but everything is extremely nocturnal in my area. It is nice to have a local place but the East Texas mentality of the folks in the area make it pretty frustrating. I will keep hunting here but will not have it as my only place in lieu of something in West/Central Texas.

I just got in on a sweetheart deal (free and sole hunting rights) of 1000+ acres west of 75. What can I expect?

Hard to say without more info. It depends on many factors. I understand you may not want to disclose TOO much info about the specifics of your location, but the more detail you can provide, the better folks may be able to answer for you.

Are you near a creek? If so you will have hogs and maybe a bruiser or two...

I hunted there in 2012, not far from the jail. Creek bottom, heavy cover, and patience is exactly right. If you set a feeder you would be in better shape to build a pen around it There are hogs there, too. We did have some very nice deer on camera that year, even a big 10 point. We didn't fire a single arrow even with lots of effort.

How big of place was it? Did you ever see any deer at your hunting sits?

I think it was only 50 acres. The landowner's house was 300 yards from where we hunted. I saw very healthy looking does and a buck that was profiling me, crossing right to left. I never got a look at him from the front where I could check width and there was lots of saplings between me and him. But he did come within 30 yards and looked mighty fat.

There are some giant bucks in Collin County. The first time I saw a deer in Collin county was 1999, west of Anna. So there have been deer die from old age in that county. North of McKinney still holding lots of browse and cultivation it will produce some record book deer, I predict.

I totally agree about the big bucks, it really is a sleeper county. I do know it seems alot of poaching occurs which is a drawback...
