My boys were drawn for the youth opening weekend hunt at the Pat Mayse WMA by Paris. Can anyone provide any comments on the place? This will also be our first public WMA hunt as well, so comments on both topics are appreciated. We'll be 30-06 Rifle hunting.
Thanks, Charlie

Although I've never hunted Pat Mayse, I hunt in the Chicota Bottom just up the road. We always see plenty of deer.

I don't post much but live in the area. The area was hard hit by an ice storm last year and damaged the forest. I drove by few days ago and mother nature is hard at work repairing her chaos. I don't know how the acorn crop will be, maybe the post oaks will still make. It should be a good area to hunt, tightly controlled harvest. I would bring it up on google map and research it. Sanders creek feeds the lake and if it floods things get really wet. Pigs are a real nuisance and I think you are allowed to let the air out of them while hunting deer. The 13in. A. R. is in affect and my personal feelings it has helped the bucks get older and better. Who knows you may run into a 140 class. You will have crk bottom and upland regions, research, check out the oaks for acorns and your chances are good. Good luck to you.

I got selected on the 2nd draw for this location, but oddly never got an email. I was notified on my other selections so I know my information was correct. I just happened to be looking at something and saw the selection and that I had missed the payment deadline. I was selected for Cooper on the first go around, but I am bummed that I missed this chance. Next year I will log in and check my status rather just relying an email notification.

You didn't miss anything, don't believe any of the hunters for youth weekend ever fired a shot. That was some of the toughest woods walking I've ever done with all the downed branches.
