Hope someone can possibly tell us what happened. While shooting my Glock 9mm today, I had one cartridge split towards the bottom of the case, and exited out the side of the cartridge.

Ammo was BVAC FMJ 115 grain brass.

The pistol locked up tighter then a drum, but we finally got the round extracted. I went ahead and fired another 50 rounds of the same ammo without any further issues.

Looking back, I probably shouldn't have. Bill is going to tear down the pistol and look for damage. I'll also have him post up a pic here shortly.

Any idea's/thoughts are always appreciated.

Thanks fellas.

Almost sounds and looks like to much powder causing excess pressure.

On edit: If it is excess pressure and not just a weak spot in the brass then bullet set back could be a factor as well. I had some bullet set back issues with a box of Remington 357 Sig in a Glock several years ago.

Check the rear bottom part of your chamber and feed ramp for damage. Looks like that's where it blew out. Glock has unsupported chambers and it looks like that's where it blew out.

Thank you JCB. We'll check. One other thing I failed to mention. When this round split, it also blew the magazine out of my pistol.

You are braver than me, never would have shot it again until I had someone very knowledgeable check it out. Safety is first & paramount.

Bingo.

That's a mild KaBoom.

Check the rail raceways on the inside of the slide and the rails on the frame for cracks.

VERY glad you are ok, Janie.

Just a bad case.

Would bet got two charges of powder... Done it once myself reloading. Scary stuff. If it was a bad piece of brass I doubt it would have blown the mag out of the gun.

Definitely appreciate all the feedback. We could not find any damage to the pistol, however it is currently with a Glock armorer.

Should know more in a day or so.

Thanks again y'all.

Glocks have unsupported chambers and this is usually referred to the glock smile.

Go google Glock Kaboom

Wow Janie, you're one lucky gal, now that I think of it! That could have caused serious digit damage! Glad you're ok after that.

Did you ever get a definitive answer from the Glock person??

Pistol is back in my possession. Overcharged case. No damage to the firearm, and our armorer for good measure, went ahead and replaced the recoil spring and firing pin.

He flung some lead downrange with it, and we're good to go.

I just put about 1,500 rounds through a 26, needless to say my hand is hurting and I have new callouses and cuts in places that my beloved P226 never bothered. Heck my trigger finger hurts from the stupidly small trigger guard and shooting with gloves. Glad to hear that your gun is OK, these plastic things can take a beating.
