Hey Guys, Im a bit stumped on this one and need some help. I have been looking into buying and building a 7mm Rem. Mag off of a Remington 700 action as many of you have done. I am planning on initially buying the rifle and putting a good scope on it to use this year and then as time and money allow, upgrading it a little at a time. I was planning on buying the SPS new and going that route. Recently I have found a used stainless rifle made 03-2010 with a fair scope on it for what I can buy the new gun alone. I first thought that the rifle was a XCR because of the jeweled bolt on it but have come to find out that the SPS Stainless has the same bolt. Is this Correct? Also, the barrel has minimal rust specs (not a problem to me for a re-build) on it which I'm guessing the XCR wouldn't have. I believe the stock is the same synthetic stock as the SPS but honestly didn't pay attention enough. Is there any way to find out for sure which model it is or can I look up the S/N? BTW this rifle is affected by the recall. How much of a pain has it been in dealing with the recall? Or should I just bump up the trigger job to first on the list?
This is obviously my first rifle build and any help, suggestions, or opinions are GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!!!

None of that matters if it is a donor rifle in the long run, anyway. Doesn't matter SPS or XCR. Do what you had planned to do and don't worry about manufacturer's model designation. When you take the barrel off it's just a Rem 700 barrel. The action is just a Rem 700 action. Get it, run it, build from it.
Put a Timney trigger in it and leave Remington out of it. Take their trigger out and beat the chit out of it with an eight pound sledge so no one else can ever use it.

Most of us buy the lowest end base model we can get our hands on since we are just buying an action and bolt anyway. FYI

I don't think sps have jeweled bolts. The sps isn't quite as smooth as as the jeweled

The bolt body is the only part jeweled which won't make it any smoother the lugs are what makes contact for smoothness. I would do as FiremanJG said and pick up the cheapest action in your preferred length and go from there.
