2. Do you carry a small first-aid kit and if so, what's in it? (I carry a survival kit, but was wondering about first-aid.)
3. Any reason to bring a couple of cheap (as in ski-slope type) walkie talkies, other than possibly for the drive up?

I'm sure I'll have more questions, but this is what bubbled to the top of my brain today.

1. Start with the day pack and keep it light & down to just necessities (H2O, RF, Boolits, Clif Energy Bars, leave room to store jacket, head lights, batteries, etc. Y'all get up there an start toting around too much and catch a case of altitude sickness your hunt will be a very miserable, yet memorable one. Adjust what you take as you feel it to be necessary.

2. bandaids, duct tape (it has tons of uses)

3. Doesn't hurt, also doesn't hurt for each pairing to rent sat phones.

#1 mentioned above by rifleman is hugely important. Water is worth more than food, so take high, lite energy snakes, like a trail mix. Make the water the weight. Only gear you need, after the 1st day, you will be looking for ways to lighten the load I guarantee and you may find a couple things you may want to take that you left at camp.

As far as a 1st aid kit, I never took much, roll of electrical tape (they are small), aspirin (good blood thinner and good to have if your ticker goes), Ibuprofen for muscle aches, already have rope that serves many uses. Radio and phone could save your life in a medical situation, one may work when the other doesn't. Good small, tough flashlight with several extra batteries. Several pairs of surgical gloves, clean animals and will start a great fire if stuck in over night (been there) store easy and lite.Roll of florescent orange flagging (mark your kill area for safety), cover your animal with on the way out (safety), mark a location if lost..

Just don't over think it, I have found countless stools, flashlights, and other crap folks took in and ended up leaving. You could probably use a kitchen sink to clean up after your harvest, but do you really need to pack one in grin

Go as lite as you can and be comfortable, you will know after day 1 grin

1. I like a do it all pack. Just depends on how much you're willing to carry. A day pack can save you a little weight during the hunt, and still bring out a small load on the first trip. I just never felt the need to use a smaller pack. Some do.

2. I do have a first aid/survival kit. There's all kinds of stuff in it. As far as first aid goes, I have basic things like gauze, antiseptic, super glue, etc. I have recently added some Quick Clot to it, as well.

3. I don't mess with them. They might be a good idea. I just never felt the need.

Alright, ladies, I would like to do another get together if possible. I don't know when my next days off will be, so it will be short notice. Most likely, we will meet somewhere in the DFW area. I will give as much notice as possible. If I can get a few of y'all committed, then we'll make it happen. I will keep everyone posted as to when I think it may happen. We are supposed to rig up a job on the Rocker B this weekend. It should be a 2 or 3 well pad. Those jobs last a couple of weeks, or so. I'll let y'all know.

You know it.

Also, you know, elk can be killed without a camper.

Had that bad boy changed in 10 min, and back on the hunt!!

Ps if you run toyo's don't blow one out near Durango. Three days to get a new one.

On top of mountain glassing now. No studs mulies. Elk really aren't talking. Elk should fire up in next day or three...

Need some cooler weather quick

BOBO, sounds like a repeat of last year, hot and quite, at least that's what I heard from early season hunters. It was all but over when I rolled in for 1st, but that's when the weather turned.

Good hunting BOBO. Forecast doesn't show it getting much cooler for the next week. Looks like you're gonna have to roust 'em.

Run some real tires instead of Toyos, if you like hunting more than changing tires.

No report from Bobo means either something died or he's out of spare tires.

Loved tires so far but very soft side wall...apparently

Made stalk on decent mulie this morning got to my point little to late. Last two passed in front of me at 50. Chip shot but dinks. Big one was leading the pack. So backed out.

Sitting water hole now. It's a hot day today boys. Elk are in outer space some where. Going to head to higher country in the morning. Only place I can think to go. But can't be much water up there as hot as it's been.

Might be surprised, allot of those summer rains congregate in the mountain tops.
