...no seriously, the large rodent with big teeth, and a flat tail. Found one on the road dead, about 5 miles west of Hwy 99, 5 miles north of I-10. Mostly farms and ranches around there. Nutria, I've seen quite often, but not their big cousins.

Me and my boy found a dead river otter on 979 in Robertson County. I didn't know they got that big. I'd only seen one before near Humble Tx 15 years ago.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

A single otter sounds like a herd of hogs coming through the woods when you're on a deer stand.

Beavers are common. I really want an otter to mount-just can't bring myself to shoot one because every time I see them they are always in pairs. They are legal but have to get CITES tag-regs say must tag immediately upon killing but problem is only the Austin TPWD office has the tags. The district offices have other CITES tags, but for some reason they don't send otter tags out. At least as of 3 years ago.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

No shortage of them. A couple of teenagers that I know trapped about 10 of them last year in Tarrant County.

That's funny...when I worked in Austin there was a guy in the office who was an amateur wildlife photographer. He mentioned one time after returning from a trip that he'd flown to 5 states trying to get a picture of a beaver. I think he almost cried when I told him my sister has a beaver pond virtually in her back yard in Falls County, we can drive down Saturday and you can get all the pics you want.

There's at least one great big one on Lake Mineral Wells. If you get too close in your kayak his tail slap will sound like a 12 gauge, trust me on this one.

I shot a beaver right where you mentioned 2 years ago. 99/I10 ish area. It's chewing on a log on the wall in my room right now. Plenty of beavers in the bayous around that area.

Did you live under a rock? I had a friend, that while playing golf in Mesquite, tried to pet one because apparently in Michigan they don't have them. It slapped and briefly charged him, that was a sight to see

Am I the only one that can see the funny in that he would rather mount an otter over a beaver? Chupa

On Lake Grapevine you can see the damage beavers have done towards the west end by Marshall Creek. Lots of small trees gnawed on. Awhile back, we found a dead beaver on a creek bank while duck hunting.

they tend to sink when you shoot them in the water They will float after about 20 minutes if they are dead. We have tons of them at our place and they are big. I'm 6'0 for size reference.
