Since more and more people are getting out and hunting with thermal these days I made this short video to show what different things look like at night. Sometimes even with the best systems things other than hogs look like hogs and it is imperative that you watch your target until positive identification is made. I have hunted with many people using night vision and thermal over the past few years and it is amazing to me how fast some people want to just shoot and identify later. Please Please take your time. And if hunting with others at night communicate. If this helps people I will make a more in depth video over the next few weeks.

Those are the things to pay attention to, to help ID the critters properly.

Hopefully people getting thermal will learn from this video and won't learn the hard way, which can give night hunters a bad rap.

I have never shot at any target that was not identified first.

Some of the newer thermal units with better resolution make things a bit clearer.

But I have not seen video posted of the newer units that have the target contrast of the w1000-9 especially at longer ranges 300+ yds.

Hog fever strikes many. The same rules apply to pulling the trigger at night as they do during the daytime and regardless of the optic being used. You have to identify your target, period, or you don't pull the trigger. Why some people with hunting experience don't understand this is beyond me. With noobs, it is always a concern.

So far, I have yet to see any hunter incident reports for NV or Thermal folks shooting wrong critters where the mistake has been reported to authorities, but I know it happens. While inconsequential and not illegal, I had a guy shoot a raccoon using thermal at my place that turned out to be an armadillo. I wasn't bothered by the loss of the 'dillo but was bothered by the misidentification.

Not sure why this was moved to optics??? It was to educated hog hunters on target not to display the optics.
