I have a question. I have seen some TV shows where the hunter is out for a day hunting. What can one carry that looks like they are toting a body bag? I carry a fanny pack with everything I need. What is it that would require a 40 lb backpack and what's in it?
I am talking just going out for ONE day. A 2-3 day hunt I can understand. I have also seen some local guys toting big packs, just curious and what do you carry??

Depends where your hunting.
Rain wear Game bags Water Snacks Jacket Headlamp First aid etc
Most three day guys don't even carry 40lbs.
A lot of it maybe pack sponsorship though and or extra camera equipment

It's a sponsor thang. Gotta tote all them chemicals, decoys, calls, ozonics, etc. Heck, all their decals add 5 lbs......
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Pretty common out west when you hunt a long ways from the truck/camp even on one day trips. Try carrying all the boned meat, head, and cape 3 or 4 miles in a fanny pack. Hunting where you can drive to the downed animal, the big pack makes far less sense.

A lot of smart hunters in remote areas carry more than they for the day in case things turn out badly. They are prepared for unexpected eventualities. If you think about it, a lot of people who get into trouble in the wild are those who do not make such provisions.
Of course the guys on TV shows either 1) have a crew following them with gear and they all split the loading, or 2) self document and have to carry camera gear and such themselves such as all the necessary battery packs.

I never used to carry much at night. Now that I hunt almost exclusively at night and reccord, it seems like I need an 18 wheeler to follow me around.

I noticed on a few shows a lot are carrying an eblerstock x2.
It's only 1800cu but has a small frame you can pack meat out with
