Sorry to hear about that, Sneaky. But if you can't trust your employers, I'd probably do the same thing. It's a seller's market for workers in your field, you'll find something quick.

I'm headed to Albany this afternoon to sign on the dotted line for the job I wanted. I just talked to my new boss. From all accounts, he will do what he says, so I'm hoping this holds up. He said whatever days off I needed for the hunt were fine. My payed vacation days don't start for six months, but he said taking off before that is fine, I just won't get payed. I made it clear that I didn't care about that. I just needed the days for this elk hunt, and that was it. He said it would happen. So, there's that.

If it could be done, I would have done it at my last job. This go round should be far less demanding. 12 hour shifts and actual days off. It will be less money as a result, but I'll have a life outside of the oilfield, now. We are all looking forward to it.

Good news for you man BTW, did the other Co. pay you for the missed accrued vacation days? that would balance it out somewhat.

I'll be lucky to see my last bonus check from them. Vacation days are a foregone conclusion, I'm afraid.
