This family of Skunks has burrowed underneath my slab and is making life miserable for me. I,ve tried smoking them out and flooding them out but it seems to have PO'ed them that much more. I have caught one in a box trap but cant catch the rest.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of them?

1. Dig a 2'X 2' hole near the entrance burrow. 2. Dump a shovel full of fireplace or campfire ashes in the hole you've dug. 3. Sprinkle Birdseye frozen peas around your hole.
When the skunk comes out to take a pea, kick him in the ash hole. HTH!

Are you still trying the box trap?
I have caugth them in Havahart traps using canned cat food or tuna.
Maybe if you change baits and move the trap?
Wish I had some better advice. Good luck.

I use sardines in my coon traps. I always seem to catch more skunks than coons. Like Ralph mentioned, I hear canned or dry cat food works well too.

They love the smell of bananas. Also try the can cat food or the cheapest can of Mackerel you can find.

OH...also try to keep the trap in a dark spot, they tend to go AWAY from bright lit areas at night.

Should you catch one, they CAN be removed from the trap alive without spraying you. A good friend caught one in a trap that he was using to catch coons and I took the dare to get him out. Using a method I found on the Internet, I was able to release him without any problem.
Just approach the trap very slowly and lay a soft blanket or other cover over it. Skunks don't see very well and will often stomp their feet when feeling pressured. Working from behind the trap opening, slowly raise the door and allow the skunk to exit. And be sure to avoid sudden moves that might be more easily seen by the critter.
Again, I used this method and walked away without being sprayed.

Start leaving catfood out a good distance from the hole. Far enough that you can slip up on them. And pop them with a shot gun. Aim for the front half and hammer them good and they will not spray. If you have one of those gravity self feeders just fill it up and keep an eye on it. Don't spotlight them just shoot them by moon light and they're not as wary.

I heard about a fellow who knew a fellow that tried this
What you need is a chips and salsa dish
Where the salsa goes you put a peanut butter cracker all crumbled up
Where the chips go you put antifreeze
Problem solved !

Why would you want to release it alive???
Dang things will devastate your quail population. I kill every skunk I see. I have tried every method you can think of to kill a skunk without it spraying. The only thing that works is a lung shot. Head shot is no good and trying to hit them in the spine is no good either.
Keep your cage out and just change baits and move it around. You will get em. Good luck

antifreeze is a BAD idea...it might get the skunk or whatever you are after but there also is a great chance it will get something that you ARE NOT after (someones pet dog, cat, whatever)
