O.K. Guys, I can put up with snakes, gators, bears, bees, and what-have-you. But Freaky spiders give me the creeps. I was bit by a Brown Recluse Spider a few years back, and got sicker than heck back in Minnesota. Luckily, I smashed the nasty thing before it gave me a full dose of poison. The doctor told me (next day, after puking & hot/cold sweats all night, the shakes) that there is NO antidote for spider bites.

Now, I've seen enough Black Widow spiders down here to fill a bucket full, including inside the house. Have any of you ever been bitten by one, and how did your body take it/react? Sounds like they are quite poisonous. Jeez, I hate 'em!

You'll find out soon enough. Just about everyone gets bit a time or two down here. Just part of living in Texas. It's just a matter of time.

Enjoy your stay.

Just got bit by a brown recluse last month. They have seven different poisons in their venom and no antidote. I was lucky to fully recover without loosing significant chunks of flesh. The problem with their bite is you don't even feel it when they bite you.

13 years ago in Paramedic school comes to mind. Black Widows cause intense instant pain. Brown Recluse may not cause pain until much later. Brown Recluse can and often does cause necrosis. Necrosis is cell death, the only way to halt the spread is to remove the infected area surgically.

I have brown recluse in my shop and see them every day. I'm glad they are not agressive since they pack such a punch.

Spray it with Tempo or Demon WP and there won't be anymore of them.

They got a dose of Tempo two weeks ago. Later that day I saw one headed right across the shop floor out in the open. My exterminator. told me once you see them in the open, in the light, they are dying. He also toldme if you see them all the time you have infestation. We took care of it in the house, now I have to get a handle on them in the shop. You have to hit them every four weeks for months to get them under control.

I think sneaky may just be embellishing a bit. Lived in Texas all my life, we have more black widows than you can shake a stick at out at our property and several at (thank the lord haven't found one inside) the house. I have never been bitten that I know off and I don't know a person who has.

I have been bitten by dang near every other creepy crawly though.

If bitten by ANY KIND of spider, snake, scorpion ect... you should have someone urinate on it as soon as possible !

It doesn't help but it's funny for everyone else around!

I keep everything sprayed with some stuff called suspend. Have to spray every 3 months and it keeps the bugs and spiders under control. Even the scorpions die when they go across it. Dang near stepped on a rattlesnake this morning though. Went in and out of the barn several times and the next time, there he was. Stepped right over him. He died.

Get some Cyper WP. It's the generic of Demon and Cynoff, just cheaper. It's a wetable powder. You mix it with water, spray it along the baseboards and it dries leaving the powder. As a powder it remains stable for a long time (several years). It also kills scorpions. Really good stuff.

I will say I'm not a fan of throwing poison all around my property, or living quarters. But I did pick up some of the Demon stuff at tractor supply, and I'll sparingly put some out.

The creepy things show up where you least expect them, and that is when you get bit. I was goofing with one (with a long stick) that was protecting its' egg sack, and it seemed pretty darn vicious. It was in a spot that a person unknowingly would have put 'ur hand.

Haven't heard from anyone who has gotten bit yet on here. Lets hear 'ur story???

My Grandpaw passed away back in 1995 so I cant get the story on how he was bitten or what the recovery time was like but I do know he was bitten by a Black Widow on his upper arm. One day we were swimming in his pool and he took his shirt off to jump in. That's when I noticed a very large scar and depression in his upper arm. I asked him about it and he said it was a Black Widow bite from a long time ago.

Have the BW scattered about our place. We just are used to identifying their web and be careful. Wife seems to be a magnet for copperheads, scorpions and black widows! She found a BW in our garden yesterday with a web between some green onions.

There is anti-venom for black widow bites. It's rarely needed though, usually reservation ed for extreme reactions. Black Widows are neurotoxic, so lot of pain, and pretty quick onset, but most people rarely have to worry about much more than the severe pain the bite causes. At least it's not Brazil, they have the wandering spider, which not only can kill, but can cause erectile dysfunction if the 4+ hour erection their bit is known to cause is not treated.

I'm 59 and I've never been bitten by a BW but no telling how many I've killed. I have been bitten by a brown recluse though. Damn thing was in my shirt in the closet and when I put the shirt on it got me dead center of the chest. I didn't even feel the bite and never had any nausea or high fever but it rotted a hole in my chest the size of a baseball and believe me I've still got the scars. I've never had anything itch so bad in all of my life and of course it had to happen in August so it was nice and hot to boot which made it seem worse than it was I guess.
Doc said we could do a skin graft after it healed and I said no thanks!

Biggest problem with those guys is their favourite place to hang out is the outhouse. This translates into bites on the @$$ and unpleasant surgery.

Find most of our BWs around the trailers. Makes you think twice before grabbing under the angle iron to lift one of the smaller trailers up...and also in the cinder blocks the jacks rest on.
