Saturday night at about 11 pm I was leaving the bolling alley on 183 in Euless, middle of the metromess. When we saw something cross the road into a field accross the streed from housed. It stopped in the field, and I could not tell what it was. SO Drove up into the field for a closer look. The animal just froze and did not move. I got close enough to recognize it was a bob cat. But my wife said it was not a bobcat due to the fact it had a collar. So I creeped a little closer, and she was right, but aren't they always. The bobcat not only had a collar it was a radio collar. About that time it spooked and ran off. I am not use to seeing bocats in such residetial neighborhoods in the middle of a major populated area, especially with a tracking collar.
Does anyone know of a program where they would be tracking bobcats in urban areas, or have any insite on this? Just very currious, and it this case, curriosity will not kill the cat.

Call the local game warden, and they probably will be able to track down who is running the study.

I've heard of this study that's being conducted on Bobcats in urban areas of Texas. Seems like it was in one of my 'Electric co-op magazines'. The old brain isn't quite what it used to be. Game warden could tell you for sure.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

See if you can trap it, then haul it around the state before bringing it back and letting the cat go in the same area.

See if you can trap it, then haul it around the state before bringing it back and letting the cat go in the same area. That would only be fun if it was a GPS collar, but even modern GPS tracking collars have accelerometers. Most Wildlife GPS tracking collars are equipped with GPS units, and the VHF collar is used to find the collar or the animal once the study is over. Lotek makes some cool GPS collars for wildlife that have a time release mechanism so that they fall off after a certain amount of time. Then you take your VHF antenna out and search for the collar.

I read about it in the paper. They are tracking them to see how they are traveling. Think it's TPWD for several cities.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

inlaws live in Lake Highlands, in the middle of the Dallas mess and they have a neighborhood bobcat that hangs out. Granted they are on the creek so there is all kinds of wildlife that you would never expect in the metro mess but I've spent enough time in the back yard to see everything from a beaver to foxes and a bob cat and her babies...
the nice thing is there are no stray cats in their neighborhood!

Bobcats, coyotes, foxes and feral hogs have been seen along White Rock Creek in Lake Highlands.

Sombody smells like fried borritos...

Bobcats, coyotes, foxes and feral hogs have been seen along White Rock Creek in Lake Highlands. If they have acceptable habitat, they will eventually recolonize a given area. It doesn't have to be natural habitat either. So the fact that we are seeing lots of critters in suburbia isn't a surprise. That they are being studied is probably a very good thing as there will be conflicts with people, no doubt. So understanding what is going on may be helpful in dealing with the issue.

We have had a family of bobcats in our backyard for several days this Summer. A momma and 4 cubs...they seem to move from house to house in the subdivision. I live in Frisco up near the head waters of White Rock Creek. Of course the soccer moms are freaking out...I will say the cats had rather had poop deposit in the backyard, lol!
We also have a pack of coyotes that I see about once a month...
