While up in Hillsboro, we decided to go eat at a Lone Star Cafe next to the Outlet Mall. We waited almost 30 minutes for a waitress to come take our orders. We left...we sat down & waited about 15 minutes before she got done talking(2 tables away) to say "she'll be with us in a minute" & then NEVER came back.  We never got drinks, no orders were taken so we left. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem there or what. And it wasnt too crowded either. Needless to say, we WONT be going back to that one...again.

We stopped in that place a few years ago.
Sounds like nothing has changed
and you didn't miss anything by leaving.
Service wasn't the only thing bad.

Next time you are that way head on down to West and try out Czech America Cafe down town. You will be glad you did drive that 10 miles or so.

Thanks for the tip booger. I'll have to try that place some time. We've stopped at the Kolache place there on the side of I35 often but I didn't know about the Czech America Cafe. Sounds goooood.

I live about 15 miles from Hillsboro, and we NEVER go to Lone Star. I have had the same problem a few times there. However, just on the other side of the interstate there is a good mexican food place, El Conquistador. Its pretty dang good!

Well no offense to that area but we doubt we'll ever go back up that way again, unless its to sale something or that sort.

I understand Maggie. For all of you that travel I-35 stop off in West and turn right just past the legandary
Czech Stop (the place that sales about a million kolaches a day) and try the Pizza House or go about a mile into town, cross the RR tracks and turn left. The Czech American cafe is awful good.

We just dont travel to that area or bigger cities much at all. But IF we did, will try there instead next time.

Yanis (spelling ?) has the best Greek food I ever ate. Its about 5-10 miles South of Hilsboro in West as well. It is Awesome, and well worth the trip out that far !!!!

Hey Booger, sounds like we go to some of the same places to get good food. I grew up in Penelope back in the 80's. I agree with Lone Star, we weren't impressed either. We always go to El Con when we go to Hillsboro.
back when we used to eat housecats we marinated them in louisiana hot sauce and soy sauce then season them with lemon pepper........then onto the grill slow cooking them 3 hours........excellent folded in tortillas and pico de gallo----Newgulf

Not too many good places to eat in Hillsboro. It is a small choice area, but there are some good mexican places there and especialy in Whitney. Sorry for the dissapointment but everyone should take note of her warning

I did notice the price had gone up close to 25% last time I was there and you had to pay extra if you shared your dinner with someone else.

Yes it is still there with great garlic flavor on a lot of things. Czech America is better ...IMO...

That steakhouse in Elmott is pretty good. I can't remember the name of it but it has a brahma bull on the sign. South Bound side of I35 I believe

Heitmiller's. Original people sold out and this is a new group running it. If you are ever in Hubbard, about 25 miles east of I35 you will find Dale's place on the left hand side of hwy 31. GOOD GOING THERE I TELL YOU!!!

i would of let em know about it before i left i love raising hell in resteraunts im either the best customer they have or the worst kinda like love hate relationships
