I have a tahoe I use for my lease. I have a rat that likes to chew on plug wires. He has chewed the same one in half twice. Has anyone had similar problems and might have a solution? I've put out traps with no success. Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

The Toyota house here in Abilene sells a spray that you spray on all the wires that is suppose to keep them from chewing on stuff

Try those bait boxes with the green poison blocks and theirs also liquid poison you mix up and put in a little feeder looking thing. I think they are made by the same company. I'm not sure if they work or if the rats around our barns have moved out for summer but it's worth a shot.

Take three or four Bounce fabric softener sheets, fold them up like a bow and wrap a piece of wire around the middle and put it under the hood. Rats/mice hate the smell. Used them for years in my tractor and Mule.

Leave the hood propped or tied open is what works down in South Texas. I have seen a truck pull into camp in the evening and the rats chew the wires up by daylight the next morning. Use a chicken water inside the cab and under the hood with Liquid TomCat rat bait mixed with water. Will kill them all over time. Just refill it everytime you leave the lease.

Tried antifreeze under the hood? That eliminated mice in a camping trailer.

Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The only thing I did was leave a couple of traps under the hood when I left last time hoping to catch him but I'll try anything to get rid of this problem before bow season!

And yes. But put the sonic bug/rat thingy (I don't know the name of it either) on a timer. If it's plugged in all the time, it becomes white noise to the rat, and they'll disregard it. We've got ours set to come on about 8pm, go off at 4am, back on at 5am, and off again at 8am.

Seriously.

I don't know why it works, but since we started doing that, we haven't seen evidence of another one in the trailer.

Or... German Shepherd:
