Just curious if any of you ceremonioulsy drank deer blood, ate a liver or anything like that upon your first successful deer harvest. Just curious about this particular item of lore...

Nothing like that, I was however instructed to remove the heart and bury it....this is supposed to be a way of offering the soul back to mother earth....my grandad was part indian and believed in many of their traditions.

No, but we did convince a buddy of mine that he had to eat the heart of the first dove he killed. He's a trooper, he did it! We all had a good laugh and got it on video.

I thought about that after watching red dawn the other night... I took a shot of wild turkey after my first... I think I would have rather had the blood! YUCK!

My 8yr old son shot his first dove this year. I cut off a foot and dipped it in blood and put a footprint on his hunting cap. He thought that was pretty cool and can't wait to add quail, turkey, and deer tracks.

Was left alone with my first kill to reflect on what it meant to end a life. Very somber, and yet it meant a lot to me, gave me a deeper appreciation and acceptance of the moment....
In Memory of my 36 yr old nephew Paul Dobbins that lost his fight to cancer... Never GIVE UP !!! He fought it hard and was determined all the way to the end to beat it.
