[quote=txshntr][quote=stxranchman]Even in the perfect world of B&C scorers where they are trained to be accurate and the same you still can get a variance in final scores. There are still some official scorers that were known for being a bit more lenient on their final scores than others. Very true. There are some deer that have to go to a "committee" before the "official score" is entered in the books. Should have tried to score this buck. I considered my self lucky to be under 2" on my score than what the official B&C scorer who scored it for TBGA got. You should have seen the look on his face when I showed up for him to score this. The "official" deer contest score was 5" or 6" more than mine. Deer contest scores always seem to be high IME since they have nothing but upside for having more deer for people to look at on their contest pages. Some are closer to actual scores than others also. You hit'm with the truck?
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

Then you are right, I would be shocked. 189 and change gross NT. His side to side symmetry on net typical really pulled him down. I was over 187 on my gross score.

Ah...that is another point that is typically missed between "camp score" and "official score." On a NT, most people just measure everything and that's the score. I have also seen people give net scores by measuring everything and then deducting any odd points and the difference between sides, instead of measuring the typical frame and deducting from there. My "camp scores" are counted as gross and basically, if they grow it, I count it Guess I am guilty of what the OP was saying

Official scores from official scorers can vary as well...... I guess for all the big awards they do panel scores.

And each on the panel could still be off on score.

Every time they add up the gross then add in the NT points then deducted the side to side and then deduct the NT for a net typical score.

And each on the panel could still be off on score. Take the 2 big East Texas NT from 2012 that were scored and then rescored. The bucks scores changed each time IIRC with one or both being bigger than the original scores.

Watched a TV hunting show where the hosts killed a really nice 8 point and one of them said that it was sad that 8 points only get 3 mass measurements per side and they did not edit it for the show.

I didn't know that either, from B&C... Do elk and deer always get four circumference measurements? What about eight-pointers? What about twelve-pointers?
Yes, elk and deer trophies ALWAYS get four circumferences. In the case of an eight-point whitetail, the G-4 is missing. Instead of looking for the smallest location between the G-3 and the G-4, the measurement is taken at the halfway point between the G-3 and the tip of the main beam. Similarly, on a mule deer with no G-3, the H-3 circumference measurement would be taken at a point halfway between where the G-2 measurement begins and the end of the G-2. For deer and elk, no matter how many normal points it has, four circumferences per side will always be the exact number of circumference measurements.
