I'm about to set up my Duke's Coon traps this weekend for the first time. Got a dozen to spread out amongst the property. I've been told marshmallows and also cat food has worked for some folks.
Any other winning suggestions?

I use sardines or tuna in a coke can with a tiny hole in it. that way its shiny and they have to fiddle with it so they are in the trap longer.

I guess I should clarify - I'm using the duke's dog proof coon traps, not a large trap.

I have been successful with both mini-marshmallows and dry cat food. Tried sardines, but results were mixed and a pain to clean out in comparison. Last 2 sets I did, dry cat food was my choice. Actually caught one Saturday night with both paws in the Dukes, pulling the dry food out. Good luck.

To hot for fish, ants will make a mound on the trap, unless you set em at dark, and plan on pullin em the next day, I'd go with anything dry for sure

We use the dry cat food that smells fishy (put that in the bottom) then froot loops then a few of those little marshmallows. Works great for us.

Mallow cream, Molasses, and anise oil. It makes a very sweet strong smell that is very sticky and holds them there longer.. Been using this combo for over 40 years works on Coons, Fox, and even a Coyote or two.. Skunks, Possums, and other non wanted seem to not be to interested..

I use what ever I have on me. Have had luck with all kinds of stuff; lucky charms, cheese crackers, and even a piece of cloth that I poured soda on. as long as it is food and they can smell it, they will try to get it IME.

Corn, milo, mini-marshmallows, dry cat/dog food, protein pellets or catfish food this time of the year. I pour or spray on fish scent attractant, a bit of sardine/juice or cheap berry flavored koolaid. If you can get a piece of aluminum foil or a cotton ball down in the bottom with the full moon we have now that works pretty good if there is some attractant scent on it.

Hard to beat sardines as I don't know much that smells stronger. They are not too bad to knock the hunger pain if you get in a bind while laying down your trapline. Adios, Gary

Ill toss my leftover cans in there and works well... my grandpa used to catch them with a piece of coke can cut off and run a wire through it then wire it to the trap were it dangles around in the wind... curious little buggers

I shove a bit of canned cat food in the back and pack it in the back where they will have to try and dig it out and trip the trap. Im sure sardines would work great too. So far have not had any ant problems.

dry cat food with milk replace has worked well along with tuna. Tuna will also work well on feral cats.

Well, I had some luck yesterday...got 2 raccoons the first time I've ever set up the traps! One with sardines and one with dog food covered in molasses. Looking forward to running all my traps next week to see what kind of luck I have in other areas of the ranch. Thanks for all your advice!
