Hey Y'all,

I was out on my lease this weekend and saw the remains of a turkey. I figured a coyote must of got it because I do not know what else could have ate the bird.

Anyway, I figured I better do some predator control. I never have before, didn't even know the land had coyotes running around to be honest. My question is, how can I do some coyote hunting without shelling out a lot of money for an electric caller?

With my set up I have a 20 ft raised blind over looking the property, could I just use a mouth call to pull them in or would they know something is up since I would be calling from the blind?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

If they have not been called much, blind hunting is OK. If you call them in and miss them, they will become educated really quick and avoid the area like the plague. A good hand call will do the job. I use an e-call too but always have a couple of hand calls with me.

Could have been a bobcat too. They love to eat birds

Never thought of that, could definitely be a cat. I am just worried because I saw a pregnant doe on my trail cam, Don't want any predators getting that fawn.

He won't avoid the area like the plague.

If there is a sustainable food source, he ain't going nowhere. But he won't likely respond that sound again. Meaning you most likely won't ever see that coyote again, that don't mean it's gone.

I did not say he would be gone. I simply said that he would avoid the area. Meaning he would not likely come to a call at a blind or area where he had been shot at before, ie: educated. I have been calling coyotes for over 35 years and I do have some practical experience.

I would do a bit of scouting first. If it is indeed coyotes you WILL find tracks and/or scat somewhere close by! Many times a coyote will mark the kill area with scat! You should be able to find some trails leading to and from likely bedding areas, water source and feeding/hunting area!
Bobcats do a lot killing that coyotes get blamed for! I am in no way saying coyotes don't do their fair share, just that bobcats are a lot more prevalent then most think!

As for calling, a hand call will get the job done with a bit of practice! If you are gonna call from the raised blind I would suggest a 1 minute sequence of you best bunny blues and then a LONG pause! Maybe as long as 10 minutes!
I would want the coyote looking for the source of the sound when it arrives instead of arriving to the scene while the big box in the sky is squealing like a dying rabbit! That may be enough to send them packing!
You can also put out some raw meat to attract them to the area in front of the blind for an ambush like a deer! Just be careful about placing your scent with the bait!
Good luck!
