Hello, I am a 21 year old woman who has always had an interest in nature and hunting, but never had the opportunity to go or learn as no one in my family had any interest (they thought it cruel) when I was young. I've lived in Texas (Brazoria county) my entire life, but none of my current friends/acquaintances have any experience or interest in going with me either, so I'm finding it very difficult to get into this.
Where should I even start? I would be happy to be able to just go along and see how everything plays out a few times, before actually doing anything myself. I have found hunter's education classes, but nothing further than that.

37 minutes and 27 views with no response..... What's wrong with you guys???? Sorry Missy, afraid you intimidated them with your correct spelling along with the proper english and sentence structure wink....

Good luck. Just get out there and kick around on your own. It ain't the rocket science that some folks would have you believe. Have fun.....

Welcome to the forum. We need more female's involved in the hunting/shooting sports arena. Keep asking around. There has to be someone in your area. I'd also check with local shooting clubs, gun ranges, for any events they may have.

I know of one female in your neck of the woods, but she doesn't post here very often. Irregardless, try sending texas huntress a pm, and hopefully she'll have some recommendations.

Good luck!

Get set up for dove hunting. Its fairly cheap and easy to get into and there is always a place to hunt. Ask around for places or look into Type 2 public land. Your area has a few good spots left.

welcome We don't have to know how to spell correctly or use proper English here in Texas to help someone. It is just the neighborly way.

worthless ... oops, wrong emoticon whistle welcome

I'm sure someone in your area will chime in and offer assistance soon. Sign up for a Hunters Safety Education course near you, find and go to some local shooting ranges or gun clubs, hunting people are usually very good about helping spread their passions of the great outdoors.

Check with people that you work with. Surely someone you know has to hunt.

Welcome and good luck in finding someone to help. It is intimidating to start, and I hope you can find a mentor who will take the time to get you going in the right direction. Hunting needs all the ambassadors we can get. If you get up this way, let me know and I will see what I can do.

It may not be that everyone is afraid of a lady hunter, with good spelling and sentence structure. More likely because she's a young lady hunter...and some of us are very afraid of our wives...

As someone already mentioned, starting off dove is really easy and I thought it was a great way to get my feet wet ( this is my first season). Get your Hunter's safety course done, then a license and the public hunting permit is worth it IMO. I got to do alot of dove and waterfowl on public lands that I would have otherwised missed out on, so look into it.

Welcome!

Shot my first turkey today...Scared the crap out of everyone in the frozen food section, it was awesome!

welcome

To be 100% honest with you, every girl I have gone hunting with has always done better than the boys. Went duck hunting with my brother and his girlfriend, the gal hit her limit in about 45 minutes. Went deer hunting with another girl, she wacked her first doe, 1 shot and dead right there. Then went bow fishing with another lady friend and she shot 6 or 7 gar.

I'm glad more ladies don't hunt because y'all would put us men out of work! Hah, but seriously have fun and make friends. I started hunting when I was 21, now 3 years later I am finally killing stuff. I am self taught though, it is much easier if you have a mentor. Make some friends and ask them to take you out to their leases and what not. Wish you were closer to Fort Worth, I would let you out to my land and kill hogs/coyotes whenever you want.

welcome to the addiction.

Start at the gun range learning to shoot first. Try to find someone with a 22 long rifle to learn how to shoot. Once you master that, you can move up to something bigger that will kill big game like deer and hogs. Don't start out dove hunting unless you spend time with a 20 gage shotgun figuring out how to shoot moving targets. If not, you might get discouraged before you ever get started and that would be a shame.

stxranchman gave you a great idea finding other women's hunting clubs would be a great place to start.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. up

Take hunters ed and get a license would be a good start. Lots of places to hunt waterfowl and dove in Brazoria County, pigs too.

Hunting is an incredible activity. Killing an animal is only one part of the experience. A huge part of the experience is being with people who have a similar attraction to the animals and nature that you are wanting to enjoy. Please link to the following group and call the woman listed at the Houston web address. She will be able to help you.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/bow/town.phtml

You will need to find someone who will partner with you in this new, fascinating hobby.
You will need to know, also, that hunting in Texas often entails the use of discretionary spending. That is, you will need a little seed money. For example, I googled Brazoria County Hog Hunting and discovered local businesses, in surrounding counties, that would love to have you for a client, but at a cost beginning at about $100-150.00/day.
That being said, there is surely someone on this site, that has access to a property near you that could show you a little about hunting. I don't have access to such property, myself, but, someone here certainly does.
Please keep us updated if you are not able to find any resources that are able to help you out.
We need to recruit young people to sustain this sport.
