As I dug more into developing existing rifles I had an buying new ones to become "back up" rifles I have been an addict of buying long guns. My 30/06 Woodsmaster is prone to jam, so I bought a semi-sportered 6.5 Swedish Mauser as my back up. Then I realized that back at the ranch we had a Marlin 336 in 30/30 that is very reliable. That too will be back in the fold for whitetail and hogs. My brother was killed in 1997 as a teen, he was very well versed in hunting and had a huge collection of guns that was very impressive for a child. The Woodsmaster was his that our grandfather gifted him with at age six. When my brother was about ten, he began his quest to find a "project" rifle for a back up. We were at a small gun shop in East Texas and he picked out the ugliest "Bubba" of this lifetime. I really think that he felt sorry for it and wanted to turn trash into treasure. The 93 Oviedo Mauser with "Melvin" among other things was shot a few times and he placed a Williams Peep on it. Don't know what he thought about it, but I did track down the guy who we gave it to after the funeral. Two weeks ago, I brought "Melvin" home. I really need some guidance, I want to do bring this project to life and not spend too much. My first goal is safety and secondly I want it to be accurate. I have already ordered a better stock and have an apointment to have "Melvin" drilled and tapped. All the numbers match with the exception of the bolt that is bent. I have cleaned and oiled it, it does need the magazine spring looked at and their maybe a little hickey in the barrel. How do I remove the bolt, I want to clean the barrel even more? If there is a hickey in the barrel, should I have it chopped. I live in Texas and would love to get a Mauser expert to take a peek at it. When I traded back for it the guy gave me two boxes of Remington 140 grain corelokt. Would also love to add a scout scope instead of drilling and tapping but can't find a 93 mount. I have purchased a scout mount for my Gustaf's 96 and maybe it would fit. Thanks for the help, here are a few pics

One thing that helps the appearance is removal of the military rear sight. One shop near me charges $40.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype
