I am using a Thumlers Tumbler and 3 lb capacity drums with stainless steel media to do my .38 special brass. The brass is coming out clean clean, but not what I would consider really shiny. The amount of water I am using can't be much more than a pint per drum, so I am wondering how much Lemi-Shine to use in order to accomplish the shine part without going overboard and having my brass subject to leaching?

Sounds like you are not putting nearly enough water first off. I fill mine to within 2 inches of the top with the media in of course which is about 1 gallon of water which IIRC is per directions. Now on the Lemi-Shine they say more is NOT better and they are correct. It will dull your brass if you add too much. I think I put about a 1/4 teaspoon which ain't much.

Agree. sounds like not enough water. 2" from the top is what I do as well. Sounds like you are not putting nearly enough water first off. Yep. I fill mine up within about 1" of the top. As for the Lemi-shine I usually pour out a pile/circle about the diameter of a quarter in the palm of my hand. Doesn't take much.

Thanks, I have been using (remember, these are the small drums) a lb of media, a pound or less of brass, and ....enough water to cover the brass. I will try more water. I was using "a pinch" or two of Lemi-shine, so I doubt I was overdoing that part either.

I use minimal water so I can tumble more brass per cycle and my results have been outstanding.

The instructions that came with my STM (essentially the same thing) says after casings and media are in fill one inch from the top. Like the others have said you're not using near enough water.

The brass will turn orange and brown if too much LS is used in ratio. Takes very little.
Pass the gravy.

You do NOT need all that water. The problem is more likely the quantity or type of detergent being used, or the quantity of Lemishine.

I have the 15lb version of the thumler's tumbler, 5lbs stainless media 200 40s&w, or 45 acp,s half full of water 1/4 or less teaspoon of the limi shine, tumble for 2 hrs. then sometimes I put em in my corn-cob vibra-tumbler for an hour if I want to make em really shine. the thumlers with the stainless media cleans faster and cleaner than anything I have ever used , but the shine is sometimes a little lacking
