I have the opportunity to hunt in Baylor county near Seymour. The land belongs to a friend of mine and he said he only hunts dove on his property but thought there should be some nice deer on the place since there is quite a bit of cover and no one has hunted deer since he purchased the land eight years ago. I have never hunted in this area and was curious as to when the rut started and what I should expect as far as the amount of deer and size. Can anyone provide some insight?

We hunt in Know, just the other side of Seymour, the deer are bigger in body size, but the population is nothing like South Texas. For us, the 1st Rut is over, but some just got back last weekend and a buck was shot with a swollen neck. So you never really know.

Thank you for the update. You are correct, you never know what might show up. Less deer but bigger body size sounds good to me.

We used to own 1100 acres in Baylor County (Bomarton and Dutch Creek area). Really good hunting out there.

Some great deer out there! It's a sleeper county as far as most of the state knows, but there is some great deer there.
