I have a vast collection and got my first Handi last week. It's a 270 and although I didn't need an extra rifle in that caliber, it was a good deal. It's a black synthetic. A week prior to that I stumbled across a nice Nickel Redfield 5 Star. So I drove an hour out of town to find some nickel or stainless rings. The Handi came with a Tasco and the Redfieid needed a home. Needless to say I overpaid for some Weaver Rings 37.89 and while they match the Redfield they don't fit at all and my mint condition scope is scrathed. Can I bend the rings or just try to take them back. I should have read the package where it said up to 44mm and the scope is a 50mm

The Weaver rings do tend to mark the scope tube, but I have never had an issue with them otherwise. They hold well and stay put. Getting the crosshairs level can be a bit of a challenge with them as the screws only on one side tend to pull the scope around a little as they are tightened. I would try to get the correct height and go for it.

If you like the Weaver style but want higher quality go with Warne.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I'm taking them back, just my only day off and I planned on rigging the Redfield to my 270 and also trying out my 6.5 Mauser before I scout scope it. Good news is my Msuser mount came with rings! Hopefully Walmart has silver or stainless rings.

this wont help you with rings that are too low, But when putting weaver rings on a rifle. slide the rings into position don't hook the top half of the ring onto the bottom and force it over the scope. That is when the scope gets scratched. nothing wrong with weaver style rings other than they look cheesy.

I have Weaver rings and bases on my .375 H&H and my .338 WM, as well as many other rifles. With a coin from your pocket, you can remove the scope, use your iron sights, and re-affix the scope with repeatable accuracy of around 1"-or-so at 100 yards. I have verified this repeatability myself on several rifles. They are simple and stout.

The newer "QuadLock" Weavers are easier to work with, IME. They don't twist the scope at all, and if you torque the ring screws to around 18-20 inch-pounds (as recommended), you shouldn't see any marring of your scope.

Weaver rings are like Nosler Partition bullets.....they are the gold standard that everyone tries to emulate.

I am not much of a fan of Weaver rings... I tend to stick to Leupolds.
