Anyone have an opinion on this preventative medication?

There are some horror stories but there are with any meds. The good definitely outweighs the bad other than price. I have a lot of clients that are on it and I have administered a ton of doses of it with no incident. Another positive is that the flea and tick portion is the same as comfortis which I have been reading recently as being praised for being the most effective thing out there for ticks at this time. I think its a great option if you don't like topicals. Another thing that people commonly don't know is that if you do treatment through your vet most manufacturers will back the product and even pay for treatment if the product is ever innefective so there is an added benefit to doing it that way especially if you only have one dog.

I used it for a few months but dog will just plain not eat the pill. Not matter how much I crush it or what. I put it in, we can't get him to swallow it. We had to switch to a topical.

He is a very picky eater though. I don't understand why they can't make it taste like peanut butter lol.

^^^ Its called you open its mouth and shove the pill to the back of its throat and hold the snout shut so it can't spit it out...its how vets get dogs to take pills and it works. Doesn't hurt the dog and doesn't hurt the relationship between owner and pet. I do that with my sheltie who will barely take treats from us at our house, let alone pills (just like your's, doesn't matter how blended, crushed, mixed in with anything else) so I take a pill and shove it down his throat. My vizsla will readily take the pill but I still put it in some PB and bread to really make sure.

I would say I really like Trifexis. Have no flea issues with my dogs and the shletie has long long hair (flea fun house). Only thing I wish it protected against was ticks. I can't take my vizsla out to the lease without picking ticks off her, but thats probably due to where she sticks her head into.

Trifexis is a good one, expensive, but good.

My pup has taken it for five months now and have had no issues. Fleas are something I worry so much because of the heat down here and I appreciate that it also takes care of the heartworms as well. My pup had no problem taking it at first however he began fighting spitting out a couple of months ago. I usually feed him dry dog food and when I give him the meds ground it and put it in along with some buttermilk. He goes bonkers for it!

Both of my dogs are on it. Never have found a flea or tick on either one.

Biggest complaint is the dogs not wanting to eat it but I was warned about that before I started them on it. What I do is take a Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie and slip the pill inside half of the cookie. Each dog gets half the cookie and they inhale it before they even realize what was inside. Its the only people food either dog gets and they only get it once a month.

Sure beats the heck out of that messy tube stuff I use to have to apply to their back and neck.

I prefer Sentinel. Sentinel is a very similar product at half the price of Trifexis. Neither Sentinel or Trifexis does anything for ticks so you would still have to use another product for the tick angle.

Same here... started on Trifexis since vet was pimping it... but Sentinel works just as well for a significant discount.

Make sure you give any of these after a meal...

I have had my GSPs on it for five months, lately they have been having flea issues that never occurred when I used a topical application. I will finish off my current 12 month supply and see if the flea issue continues, if so I will back to a topical. confused2

Trust me. I tried that. But holding the snout of a 100 poud Labrador is easier said than done. I don't know how he can keep from swallowing it but he does. I decided to not go through such a pita every month.
