How many use iron sights on their AR vs some form of optic? In my case I grew up using iron sights but age has caused me to more and more use some form of optic even though I prefer iron sights. What is your situation or preference?

Have a 3-9 on it now. Going to go back to irons, Trijicon front post, and rear aperture.

As soon as I can afford it, I'm going to the SS 1-6X Mil/Mil FFP. The job of the carbine is max 300 yard shots in my opinion, and mine certainly is a carbine with a 16" barrel. I can say that since I have plenty of other tools for longer shots, way longer.

Good, another iron man. I have two AR's, one with irons and one with 4 power scope. I always seem to grab the one with irons.

Me Too. I have the H-1 Aimpoint 2 MOA RDS. I have a Folding Troy rear and FSP on a Middy.
My old tired eyes see the irons better on a Rifle Length sight radius, but Middy is better than Carbine
Wife's Middy has fixed iron sights, Magpul folding rear.

I am a firm believer in carbines being made for irons.

That being said I do think there are some advantages to using a 1-4x optic, hence why I put a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 on my DPMS. It has true 1x and gives me a little edge when it comes to longer range shots. It is also lighted which means I can use it in lower light situations than the irons would have allowed.

Irons are proven and quite reliable.

I used to use irons, now I use an Aimpoint red dot. Much better IMO.

My AR has a digital NV scope on it currently. So I use an optic.

I have an AK with iron sights that I will keep that way.

Both, depending on it's intended use. I have flip ups on the HD rifle and the hunting versions all wear optics of some sort.

Since both of my AR-15's in 223 are set up to compete with, I run a Burris 1-4 XTR scope on it. It's my main scope I use out to 600 yards, even 800 if needed. I have a 3-9 SS FFP mil/mil I also use, but not for CQB stuff. That's why I like the 1-4, it can do it all.

For hunting, I see no reason NOT to use optics, if you have a choice and can afford the optics. People generally shoot much better with optics than with irons.

Our home defense ARs vary. Some are iron and some are Aimpoint T1. I prefer the Aimpoint.

all of mine have optics. I do have some flip ups on my HD AR but the main optic on that one is a T1 Aimpoint. No reason not to use up to date technology when it's readily available. The aimpoints can be left on for a really long period of time and they're about as durable as rail mounted irons.

I have an Eotech on one, a 3x9x50 Luepold on another and a Luepold compact 3x9x40 on another. Same issue. Older eyes.

I use both irons and optics. My AR's are configured differently depending on what situation I plan to encounter. But I do want to try the Weaver Kaspa Tactical 1-6x32 with a 30mm tube and illuminated reticle for my next 300 blk build.

Have been looking at this for an AR for some time

There are some good scopes now in the 1-6 and 1-8 powder range. Some more than others, but I do like the high mag range they offer.

I usually build AR's with BUIS, so both.

I use a Nikon m-223 4x12 or 3x12, can't remember.
