My uncle was telling me that in Houston, the "hunt" is only for a few days of the beginning of the season?

Dont know about a few days. I hunt as much as possible. Birds just dont stay In 1 area to long especially when being shot at. I try not to over hunt 1 area, I have a few areas to hunt so it works out well.
But getting a limit may only happen a few times a year.

Also last season in the hills I hunted the mourning dove were all hiding in the grass while the white wings were up in the dead trees.
Is it usual for the mourners to scuttle about in the scrub like kick birds?

I hunted a dove weed field last season. If they were not flying, I would walk the edge of the field. A couple of days it felt like quail hunting. All jump shooting

Hunting licenses go on sale the same day every year, August 15th, which is also my birthday. Oh, how they honor me. Cause they know that when I'm out walking the dove fields I don't wear no snake boots. 'round me, the snakes wear the boots.

You should see a five foot rattler mosian on through the grass wearing four redwings. And lase ups at that!
