THF DOVE SEASON COUNTDOWN

Well we are now 97 Days and a Wakeup Away from that Special Day that starts the Texas Hunting Season on Sept 1st !

Audrey and myself are certainly looking forward to it. Will be interesting starting on the Monday this year. Probably will only be able to hunt the Monday morning on opening because of school Tuesday.

Will probably hunt the following weekend as well.

un officially no , but TPWD always starts dove season on Sept 1st .

Now that there's an official countdown, it will take forever to get here.

Man quit torturing me with these reminders. I've been seeing dove almost everywhere I go.

I don't start gettin' too overboard til the last couple of weeks of August. Then it's all I can think about.

Not real excited about it this year but I cant wait for some December/January duck hunting.

Funny thing after I saw this thread. I picked up the Ipad in which my daughter had a count-down going for her Wedding which took place the past weekend so I re-set it for SEP 1 so I have it down to the seconds

I have got to stay away from this section. Everywhere I go there are Dove. At work, at home, at lowes, and when I'm driving I see them. It's like they're mocking me since they know they are safe right now.

my deal is I always have a couple adventures planned, keeps me looking forward. even a weekend fishing trip to a buddies at Fork or Richland Chambers keeps me motivated.

I too think about the day when I ask myself...where did it all go...so fast....hell I'm 62, got to get as many huntin, fishing and foolin around trips as I can

im missin opening day but I got a couple fields being held with no hunters till the 5,6,7th but you all know how that goes...

Cool. How come i never limit out? I have decoys and MOJOs and we're all pretty good shots(the ones that did come died).
My uncle was telling me that in Houston, the "hunt" is only for a few days of the beginning of the season?

Dont know about a few days. I hunt as much as possible. Birds just dont stay In 1 area to long especially when being shot at. I try not to over hunt 1 area, I have a few areas to hunt so it works out well.
But getting a limit may only happen a few times a year.

Also last season in the hills I hunted the mourning dove were all hiding in the grass while the white wings were up in the dead trees.
Is it usual for the mourners to scuttle about in the scrub like kick birds?

I hunted a dove weed field last season. If they were not flying, I would walk the edge of the field. A couple of days it felt like quail hunting. All jump shooting

Hunting licenses go on sale the same day every year, August 15th, which is also my birthday. Oh, how they honor me. Cause they know that when I'm out walking the dove fields I don't wear no snake boots. 'round me, the snakes wear the boots.

You should see a five foot rattler mosian on through the grass wearing four redwings. And lase ups at that!

Today I was at the lake with some guys and this flock of dove flies over
There must have been 30-35 dove there
I thought to my self... only a few more days and then I can start dropping em!

Was noticing the farmers are harvesting the milo about now.

I've only been dove hunting a few times with a friend late in the season last year. Didn't come home with much but I can't wait to go out again.

re-stock "dove box", shells, trash bags, game shears, nitrile gloves (I know, i'm a [censored]), gallon zip lok bags with Permanent black marker, oil, rags, ear plugs, paper towels, Koozies, all fit nicely in a plastic tote box.

Dove stools, mojo's, ice chest, ice chest, ice chest full of goodies.

11 Days Now !!!!!!!!

11 days, 8 hours, and about 40 minutes until go time! I got my decoy fences and mojo posts set up around my pond today! I think the only things I have left to do are make some wire stands for my ground decoys and finish my custom bucket. No possible way that I can make those jobs take up the rest of the time we have to wait!

edit: I also have to go turn over the ground behind my pond...I can at least kill an evening with that!
