Funny you mention this. Two nights ago I went out to take a leak because my roommates were using the restrooms. I go outside I had splashed on a 2.5' copper head. I jumped back, and put the dogs inside.

I killed one a few days ago in a wood pile.
Scared me because my 7 yr old daughter found it just walking by.

I've been seeing a lot more Copperheads on my land this year, than in the previous five or six years. Also been seeing MANY more non venomous snakes following the explosion of rats/mice/toads this year. I have to say that every one of the Copperheads encountered this year has worked hard to flee, with NO sign of aggression until I pushed the encounter.
My wife has instituted a 40' "zone of death" around the house. Outside of that, all animals have a free pass to live their lives and roam free. A couple of feet inside her boundary results in immediate removal of critter body parts with her 12ga. She doesn't miss.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Had one go between my feet a couple weeks ago while sitting on a buddies porch. Kids had just been playing right where he came from. I jumped about twenty feet.
After I regained my head, he lost his.

There has to be a big one some where I'd like to find one that size! Would make for a good looking knife sheath... All I find are the little dudes around my place
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

WOW! Looks like he is sizing you up. I think I would have taken the pic after his head was gone. But I have to say that it is a good pic ^^ True That! Boy, I would have been chunkin' split wood at him while I yell "Bring me a gun"!

GREAT Picture!! If you ever get the chance to see someone who actually is knowledgeable about snakes and snake behavior, they're not that bad at all. They all get a pass from me, at least after I catch them and photograph them.

I was pulling weeds in the flower bed last week, and a small one slithered away from my hand, less than a foot away from me. Scared the poop out of me! This one was not so lucky as to get away tho, he was in the chicken house. Wrong move fella 23" long, over 4" around...scared the pizz out of me when I went to gather the eggs
I will get off in a little bit You shouldnt have said that

...Copperheads in full bloom ... Be careful I'll 2x on that. Just yesterday a 1.5' one bit and killed one of our little 3-week old silkie-chicks while it was out scratching around in the leaves . . . Wrong move - it is now 'headless' and my daughter is skinning whats left for a 'project' . . . . . Our older chickens usually do a pretty good job of keeping these things away from the house, or at least 'alerting' on an 'intrusion', but the above one got to a little one first. .

Just went out the back door to check on the storms coming through, and there he was. Copperhead about a foot away. Ran to get my pistol with rat shot, by the time I got back he was half buried in a leaf pile. Aimed at his body anyway, hit him, but he slithered off. Hope I got enough pellets in him. Raining too hard now to investigate anymore.
