I have a 45 colt vaquero with fix sights and at 25 yards it shoots 250 grain cowboy loads a foot low and about 10 inches to the left. How can I get it to hit where my sights are pointing? It hitting to the left has really got me stumped.

Change ammo. I have seen Glocks do the same thing and simply changing ammo made all the difference in the world.

Shooting low/left is usually caused by "milking" the gun. This means that you're squeezing your whole hand as you pull the trigger rather than just your index finger (if you're right handed). Use your support hand to keep the gun locked in place and focus on just rolling your trigger finger backwards without any of your other fingers squeezing. Your sights should stay on target througout the shot. Try mixing a few dummy rounds in with your live rounds and watch your sights. If you pull the trigger on a dummy round and your sights move then it's not your ammo or your sights, you are pulling the gun off target.

Thanks. Never heard of "milking" the gun. Good info there.

Looks exactly like shooting a rifle, properly. Good stuff!

Targets to analyze your shooting...

Pistol targets

As mentioned above, try some different ammo. Also, let someone else shoot it and see if they have the same results.

Yep, good post. We are usually tempted to blame the gun first. Years ago I had a Colt Combat Commander that shot very low and to the left. A friend of mine wanted to buy it but I told him there was a problem. We went out back and of course he shot it just fine. It was all in my grip.

If you can't get it up there with ammo, PM me for a name of a guy that can fix it. He specializes in Ruger single actions. He fixed a Freedom Arms 1997 that was shooting about where yours is for me by bending the barrel. Dead on now.

This is the more correct and accepted diagnostic.
