thanks yall for all the info you've provided here . I love the hunting/fishing forums. Itried posting this before but didn't see it. My 19 yr. old son and I are new to the pheasant game so any info that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. we have an 18 mo. GSHP that I'd love to see if she could pin a rooster. This will be a virgin thing if we're able to make to floyd this year but would like to have info to make it an earnest effort. We can't do the private lease/outfitter so any and i mean any innf on the area or bird will be most welcomed. Thanks

I thought Floyd was post card reservation only. I could be wrong, I don't have the annual in front of me right now.

I may have been misleading about the areas . When you pay for the public permit you get a booklet with public lands that are leased from private landowners by the TPWD. These are the areas we'll try to hit .They're all in the area of Lockney, Floydada, and Sterley. It's like 20 units ranging from 60 - 640 acres. Most of them are adjacent to each other. It's in the blue booklet that is the supplement to the Public Hunting Lands Map Booklet .It's titled Public Dove Hunting Areas and other Small Game Leases. Sorry about the poor use of terms.

I hunted those areas late in the year about 2-3 seasons ago. We (about 6 guys + dogs) hunted 2 days and got a total of about 4 birds plus a dozen or so rabbits. Tough hunting. Didnt see alot. I did see several coveys of quail over the hunt time.
I'm not saying its a bad spot, only that we didnt have much luck. (we're not world class pheasant hunters, either...)
Good luck out there.
