I was headed to my favorite duck hole on X Lake and passed some guys towing a fairly new looking air boat coming back out before daylight this morning. When I saw them I had a good idea what happened. Our boat ramps have signs posted that air boats aren't allowed on WMA's and I figure their second segment opening day just got ruined when they saw those signs. If I could have caught up with them I would have invited them to go with me. I hate to see anybody's opening day get ruined.
Isaiah 40:31 "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

If they read the wma book it cleary states that the use of airboats is prohibited. If they scouted or even hunted at said lake within the last year then they should have seen the signs. If you show up to hunt on any kind of opening day without pre scouting or at least know the rules of the place you are going to hunt, then you are just asking for truoble. I would be willing to bet, if it is the lake that I would think it is, then they prolly were "encouraged" by other hunters to leave as they were trying to launch this morn.
If someone is willing to pour prolly over 20 grand into a duck rig they should a least take a half day and a tank of gas to go prescout with it. Or take ten minutes to read the book and know the rules. I wouldn't feel too bad for them.
I would rather one barney that doesn't know the rules have to give up an opening morning hunt than for a whole lake full of hunters to have their opening morning screwed up by some goober.
That's nice of you to want to take him out though.

I love that law....especially since where I hunt, the only way in for everyone was with an airboat! unless you knew the super secret handshake and no, I don't miss the air boats running around waking me up in the morning, as they run folks to my honey hole

Can anyone clue me in on why they are prohibited? Is it the excessive noise, or the environmental impact from blasting through the marshes?
Wasn't born in Texas, but I got there as fast as I could.

On lakes, an airboat will run dam near every bird off the lake, due to the noise... Airboats also have a way of rallying the birds...(of course not on purpose) J.J.

I have a pretty good idea what lake you are talking about and a guide from OK came down and tried it last year on opening morning and really made some folks mad, he also suffered some serious consequences from unhappy hunters. It didnt help that he made multiple trips back and fourth dropping off hunters and then started picking hunters back up at 8. The way I see it the group you saw came out ahead of the game by not launching otherwise they would have had problems at the boat ramp.

Yep, the ol famous Cooper Airboat incident. I wonder how expensive those tires were.

Only the valve stems were cut. I don't think you have to replace the whole tire when that happens.

We saw an airboat (on a trailer) running down the road just after legal yesterday. Thought to myself, "man, he's running late".
