I am interested in doing a trigger job on my ar 15, i want to lighten it and have them polish everything up since it is the factory trigger. I went into Bear Creek Firearms the other day and the owner said it would be 175 for them to do the trigger job and that having a gunsmith do it is not only cheaper but also better then buying a drop-in aftermarket trigger. I was wanting to know two things, 1) is 175 a reasonable price for the trigger job and 2) is it really "better" than buying an aftermarket, drop in, trigger?

thank you for any help

For $140 you can get a Rock River NM trigger, which will be better than any factory trigger that has been polished. It's not unusual for a CMC drop in to go for 12,000 rounds or better, and they go for about $175. I think the gunsmith is just trying to sell you a trigger job.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

A complete JP Rifles fire control set installed by JP is $220. What you want done should cost about $50 plus an $11 spring kit. The complete JP fire control parts kit is $60 so JP Rifles labor charge is $160.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

To answer you questions:

1. No $175 is not a fair price to do it, they are trying to bend you over. Here is a fair price to do it, about $120 less. All surfaces polished and lighter springs. http://www.triggerwork.net/ar15s.html

2. I can't think of one aftermarket drop in that is not better than any polished lightened mil-spec single stage job. Lets face it you can only do so much with a mil-spec trigger.

Buy yourself a jp spring set, the yellow springs. That's about 11 bucks. Then contact me. I'll teach you how to do the trigger job.

If you plan on shooting alot of surplus, buy the JP Enhanced Reliability spring set and since you're buying springs, buy a trigger adjuster screw as well, less than $15.

This exactly. And then watch a couple youtube videos on polishing it and do it yourself. It's very easy to do. I use 1,000 grit and then 2,000 grit sand paper on mine.

I replaced a single spring in my Windham Amory AR and have been very pleased with the results.

IMO, a trigger job performed by a gunsmith should not run much over $100 bucks.

Yea i thought 175 was pretty high
I don't know what route I should go in, my goal is just to make the trigger pull lighter and crisper
I'll be using surplus ammo and using the rifle on hogs, coyotes, and plinking

Look up poor man's trigger job ar15. That's what I do for mil spec triggers. Use the yellow jp springs and get a clean trigger at 3.5 lbs.
