I know this is a long way around to lizards but on the gundog forum they are having a discussion about Chagas disease and the bug that causes it. It's a scary deal and it got me thinking about that and the number of lizards I've got in the yard the past few years. They get under my dog houses and of course the dogs smell and see them and tend to bark at them. When Ace gets out to run she spends a lot of time pointing the dog houses and trying to get the little buggers. What do lizards eat? If it's mostly bugs are they a good thing to have around? If not how do you get rid of the them, or at least keep them from around the dog houses? Thanks

I have several that hang around my kennels, the way I look at it, they eat bugs, I leave em alone. That Chagas thing is scary.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I like to have them around.

Hold on Chet! I am breaking puppies on lizards. They hold pretty well and escape when necessary. I have more lizards than quail. Pups don't seem to mind.
Okay.....all of this is in jest but the pups do like to point them.

Mine don't look that green, but if they eat bugs and break pups they're safe here.

Plus, they have incredible strength. I'm not making this up. I just saw the same two on my window sill.

If they were bad for dogs, one of mine would already be dead. She likes to catch them, and the drag them around. She tries not to kill them but after a hour or two they die. Once the lizard no longer moves, she's on the hunt for the next one.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Okay.....all of this is in jest but the pups do like to point them. Been installing a new shade screen on the kennel this morning and saw Beau pointing one then saw my 15 month old pup I guess backing him. I'm a lizard convert. As many as I have there shouldn't be a bug anywhere around the pens.

Plus they are a lot cheaper than pigeons and they seem to recall as well as pigeons or quail

Mine don't look that green, but if they eat bugs and break pups they're safe here. They vary darker and lighter with age, sex, and molt. Using pesticides/herbicides keeps them from liking your yard so much. tobacco and coffee mixed and placed on their trails will kill them. red pepper water solution spray bottle will keep them at bay. Splash them with ice water they can't move then you or the dogs kill them. I never see them any more reminds me of being a kid. WE had to keep them out of the house. I would catch them by hand with or without the ice water. Mom always used tobacco and coffee it works. My dogs are busy pointing mice, much more of a pest.
Never used photoshop and never will. Photoshop is for liberals.
