Does any one know anything bad about the Remington 1911?? If you had a choice would you buy a Remington 1911 or a Ruger 1911??

I like the Remington R1 Enhanced.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I've shot the SR1911, and I found nothing wrong with it. I have not fired a Remington but would like to.
The Springfield Range Officer is a sweet shooter.

I own a SR1911 commander and love it very much. It's a no brainer for me. The Ruger is American Made, the Remington is not (nor for that matter if you want to be technical about it is the Springfield, which I have owned quite a few of and also loved very much). Ruger. Whatever you get like in any buying decision buy wisely. Someone has some Remington's priced nicely on the trader board. My Ruger SR1911 commander was priced like $800 last time I looked at Cabelas but I bought mine from one of the big retailers at a gun show for $629. Earl

My understanding is that the R1 is American Made. If it's not then why did Remington annouce that they were moving the R1 production from Ilion NY to Huntsville AL.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Thanks nsmike I believe you are indeed right. I don't know why I was under the impression they were made in the Phillipines by Armscorp. I think just heresay back from when they originally appeared on the market. My understanding is that the R1 is American Made. If it's not then why did Remington annouce that they were moving the R1 production from Ilion NY to Huntsville AL.

Maybe you got them confused with Rock Island RI instead of R1 Thanks nsmike I believe you are indeed right. I don't know why I was under the impression they were made in the Phillipines by Armscorp. Not just that.(was probably that there are tons of brands right now made by Armscorp). Remington has taken products manufactured outside of the USA before and put their name on it (double barrelled shotguns come to mind). I had the original R1 and it gave me hammer bite ( high grip) but it was reliable. Got the R1 Enhanced and shot the snot out of it, but that red fiber front sight bugged my eyes (poor vision). I now have the R1 Carry and really love it. Reliable as can be, adjustable trigger, smooth, and shoots great. I think they are a great value, and one of the few things Freedom Group hasn't screwed up there.....

Go Ruger you won't be disappointed. I paid $630 for mine and it shoots like a $1000 1911. Plus it's all made in America. The remington has some parts made outside USA.

Never owned either, but if I was to buy one, it would be the Ruger SR1911.
I think it is the best BANG for the buck.

I have not fired the Remington, only held it and dry fired it a few different times. I did buy the Ruger Commander for my carry gun. I've been extremely happy with it. There are a lot of posts on internet forums about the front sight falling off during shooting sessions. My round count is currently 312, and have had zero issues with the sights. I paid $650 for mine OTD, and that was the best price I found around the greater Houston area. I went with the Ruger because I wanted stainless for my carry weapon, that was one of the final selling points for me
