Twas the Night before Duck hunting and all through the lodge,
gear was being loaded, in the chevy or dodge.
The Shotguns were slung by mantle with care,
In Hopes that mounted green heads son would be there.
The retriever was nestled all snug in her bed
While visions of pintails danced in her head.
And Mom saying i'm nuts, while I pack my crap
had just stormed to bed for her evening long nap.
When on my night stand my alarm clock did roar
I sprang from my bed and flew to the door.
Away to the truck, on the road in a flash
out to the blind and the decoys out in a dash.
I spoke not a word and started my work
Place mojo, wiggle butt, and my duck string on a jerk.
The Moon on the brest of the dew-fallen reeds
gave the lustre of milo, rice, corn, and seeds.
When what to my wandering eyes should I see
but a minature duck, green winged teal, two or three.
with a little old hen and two drakes behind
my gun beaded up, a death warrent signed.
More Rapid than mallards, these teal they flew
and i whistled a peep and right past me they blew.
Now Divers, now Woodies, now Pintails and Coots
On Canvasbacks, on mergansers, and water in my boots.
to the top of the trees, to the clouds and the sky
these decoys are fakes, that MOJO dosnt fly!?
annoying as wet socks that before this were warm,
that mocking black water turkey, that flamboyant Corm'.
So out to the swamps the duckies they flew
i'm packing up, this trip is through.
And then, in an instant I heard in the air
the swatting of wings, and honking that shouldnt be there.
As I drew in my gun, and was turning around
down the lake a canadian came with a bound.
He was dressed all in feathers, from his beak to his tail
and was black and white and his wings each looked like a sail.
I drew up my gun, shot, and he hit the beach sand
to my wonderous surprised, on one leg, a band!
His eyes how they twinkled! His feathers how preen
now if only i could shoot something with some brown and some green.
I go to pick him up as he lifted his head
I knew in an instant he wasnt quite dead.
More holes from a shell or a twist of the neck
I gave it a try, i thought what the heck.
He arose and fought back and punched me in the head
one last stand for this big goose before he would be dead.
now he lay in my blind, a quite successful day,
better than work, by far, and in every way.
So I sprang to my truck, and I proclaim as I drive out of sight
HAPPY HUNTING TO ALL, and to all a good night.

Good luck guys with the second half!

(yeah.. i was that bored seth...)
