would like to hear some opinions on calling during bright moonlit nights. I personal think it sux. i never do as well on these nights as i do on the dark ones. When you can read a newspaper with out any light.... My thoughts are as follows
1 they can see better
2 the varmints are spookier because other predators can see better as well.
3 they move less because of 1 and 2 mainly # 2
i understand they can see my truck and all that stuff but, a lot of the time on these nights, i dont see any thing. not in the distance, not varmint that have seen me and spooked. it almost like the dead sea on these nights. any thoughts

I think they move more on a full moon night, maybe you need to be a bit stealthier.

I'm not an expert, but one time, and this is true, my little brother and his friend went out in our pasture at night looking for coyotes. Their plan was to sit in chairs about 50 yards apart and use a call. Sounds like an OK plan until I went outside that night and saw they were sitting in white plastic lawn chairs, I could see them from the house. They can see very well even on a dark night, so when it's bright to you and I, I think they can see almost like we can in the daytime. Would you sit in your truck out there in the day? You need to basically try to disappear just like you would as if it were daylight.

yea i hear what ur saying. i have actually gotten away from the pick up, used headlights and stuff. been doing this for 40 years and to me- they just dont move the same. i used to run between 100- 150 traps a night. i noticed that my catch was less during the bright times. not 0, just a little less. same thing for the calling, some bright nights i do have some success. i agree with you on the day light thing to them. i think they see a whole lot better thatn us, but on some nights, they will come RIGHT up to the truck. im no expert either but i am beging to know one thing....the more i hunt them , the less i know about them!!!

I don't think the moon really has that much to do with it, anymore. I use to think the full moon was death to all varmint hunting, but in the past few years I have noticed more and more I do pretty good on moon lit nights. I really think it comes down to being where they are, using the call they want to hear, and not letting them know you are in the area. I made a stand last year in the middle of a plowed wheat field on a FULL moon night and had 5 or 6 yotes charge the truck (camoed Geo Tracker with a rack on it) We only put one down but there is no way they shouldn't have seen us except that we kept the light in their face. I have made this work several other times on full moon nights. I really think it's just being where they are calling the way they want you to, and being quite so they don't know you are there. JMO

i agree 100% on this, you cant call them if they aint there!,but, some of the places i have been hunting and killing varmints for 30 years. i know they are there. in some cases i will go back and call the same spots i called on a moonlit night and have good sucess. its baffleing sometimes. and i undestand that there are more factors than the moon. the small vehicle u used i bet is a big plus

Predators hunt a lot on nights with a bright moon. Keep your light working as they will move and leave faster being able to see you better.

Last year on a full moon I was having trouble gettin foxes close. They were seeing the truck from a farther distance than normal. This a topdrive matte finish tan which helps alot. I switched from my red lense to a white light and problem was solved. Being the night was so bright I think the red light was not bright enough for them to not see the truck when it was on them, but the white kept them from seeing the truck and wasnt as bright as usaull because of the full moon. Hope I explained that right.
