Recently a group of fox hunters (you know the kind that ride the horses and blow the horns) have been hunting almost every other weekend on an adjoining ranch to our property. It is starting to get to me.
I don't remember when but one day I heard a ton of hounds barking very close to my property and coming from the area of my feeder. I went down to the bottom and heard them baying and I also heard a hog squealing. This was coming from the woods on my property. After this I have noticed hounds on my property sometimes days after their hunt. I know they have to be the fox hunters cause I see radio transmitters on their necks.
I understand that if it is legal, a person has the right to hunt on their property by any means and as often as they want, BUT when it effects the rights of other landowners, then they are crossing the line.
On the fox hunters website they claim that their dogs only chase fox, coyotes hogs, and bobcat. I really doubt you can keep them from chasing deer. And I really doubt the dogs will respect property lines.
Is their anything to be done about this?

Its more about personal respect for the other fellow hunter & in that case...the others DONT!
Best of luck in that situation.

True... I don't want to ban any style of hunting. As hunters we share a common interest.....

I think the best you can do is talk to the fox hunters about respecting your property boundaries. I don't know how successful you'll be - horse people tend to be rice and refried beans short of a combo platter.
I also agree with the UK remark above. We have to be very, very careful about picking and choosing which kinds of lawful hunting meet our approval. They started out with the fox hunting ban in the UK and now they're going after all "blood sports".

If it is a legal method of hunting their isn't much you can do........but.......they have got to keep their hounds off your property.
I would explain to them your concerns about the dogs chasing the game off your place and tell them loose dogs found on your side of the wire might wind up with lead poising.
Maybe they will concentrate the hunt away from your side to avoid the possible confrontation.

JMO. but I think you need to get the local GW involved in this.
Those dogs should not be crossing on to the property you are hunting.
By them doing so, if one of them got hurt or something, its owner would have to come on to the property to retrieve it.
Unless those dog owners have permission to do such, they would be trespassing and could be filed on.
A GW will be in a much better position to answer your questions and give you some viable solutions to your problem than any of us will.

JMO if they are being found on your property go talk to the owners. If that doesn't do it then go get the GW and have him talk to them.
As to them chasing deer they won't if they are not trained to. With the use of shock collars you can keep them from hunting anything. My lab looked at a rabbit (once) and figured out they hurt to chase. That was 3 years ago he still to this day won't even hardly look at a rabbit that runs across in front of him. Same with Deer and Cows in his mind they are painful so he leaves them alone.

We loved it last year. Neighbors of ours were doing that and it was the first time we all killed deer the same weekend. It moved them out of their property to ours...maybe the same will happen for you!
When they would release them, we could see the game moving to our property

Because it's not politically correct to shoot the owner.

PH Plus the owner should keep them all in check & if one goes astray...go find it at that time instead of "waiting" for it to wander back.

Some may be joking some not but before you shoot a hunting dog you might want to check out some of the people getting sued over that lately.Unless you have thousands to throw away.

The vast majority of houndsmen put their dogs up during deer season. That's what I always did when I ran coonhounds. Deer are considered "trash" to the vast majority of houndsmen, and they take extreme pride in knowing their dogs won't run them. A registered fox or coonhound that is considered "straight" and capable of working a "cold" or "hot" track alone, can easily bring in upwards of $10,000 or more. I've even known hounds to be sold for twice that. Such men can be as serious about a hound as the rancher is a horse or bull. To them, the hunt isn't about killing anything but listening to the hounds "work" the track of a single animal, while crossing and ignoring the tracks of everything else.
I would sure try to work something out with them, especially if they're also hunting hogs. They can definitely improve the deer hunting in your area by controlling these pests.
Like deer hunting, running hounds can be in the blood of a man dating back many generations. To them, the pedigree of their hounds can be more valuable than their marriage license.

Well, maybe those neighbors don't enjoy listening to the hounds and having them run through their deer hunting areas; maybe for days after the "hunt" is over. If those dogs are worth $10,000, it would take a dumbass fool to leave him out overnite or a few days. Any dog left out that long doesn't mean much to the owner and even less to me.
I killed many a dog in East Texas where they ran in packs chasing deer and killing them. When a pack would come by chasing a deer, I'd kill as many as I could. I don't care if they were wearing a collar. Control your animal or someone else will.

I feel for you man, cause during deer season i dont hunt my dogs(which are hog dogs)Due to the respect of fellow hunters. Those are hog hunters and probally not fox hunters cause i have to run tracking collars on my dogs but talk with surrounding land owners and no problems.Been running dogs for 12 years and use shock collars to break off deer, coon, cows and they only hunt hogs. They sure need a talking to by hunting and not caring where they hunt.

Checked out the site.Seems they run tracking collars but if the wanted better dogs and better hunts they should break their dogs off(. trash.)Dog handler term for dogs running anything other than what you are hunting.

on my land + chasing deer or cattle = Dead Dog (period)
That said, my neighbors (near Paradise) raise and train foxhounds. We have had almost zero problems. Perhaps the "trash" in your story is not deer, but irresponsible dog owners.
God is so good to me.

Ive had a problem with hog dogs this year on my place, next year i know 7 of them wont both me. I didn't think the collars were any good without the tracking device Ive been throwing them in a pond to keep em from finding evidence.

I've ridden with Independence.
Believe me, they try to keep their hounds on the property they are hunting. Hounds, at least the less experienced ones, will chase any game. They have to be turned away when it is realized that they're on the trail of an undesired species. They hunt in 3 different places -- where are you?
