Cable, this may be the right place but could you off to a good start. http://www.texasbiggameawards.com/Big%20Game%20Watch.htmGood luck, its easy finding the answer to your question. The above site does have a picture of the Marko Barrett, which is a non-typical. Please report back on your findings, I have wondered the same question too.

Cable - This sounds like a real interesting topic to hear on the radio. You rarely hear these stories, just read about them. Will you have people calling in to the show and asking questions. Besides finding the person to interview, be ready to answer the following from callers:
How big was the ranch? Is it high fenced? Do you feed year round? Do you own or lease the land? Did u hunt it or it just appear at the corn and bam? Etc.... Who knows what people can ask!
Who is your audience? You might want to focus on a giant deer for your geographic region.

Was not meaning to offend you, sorry that it came across that way, tact is not one of my strong points quite often.
There was just something about your post that seemed strange, and I jumped to conclusions.
I guess the reason it came across the way it did, is that killing a State record Deer in Texas, has more to do with the amount of money a person has to spend then on actual hunting skills or accumen.
In Texas, most of the folks that kill the bigger bucks have been watching these animals over several seasons and know the animal they are after just like they know their own dog.
It is usualy not a case of knowing how big it is, but a case of not realizing it was bigger than they thought it was.
Did not mean to come across as feeling you were underqualified, but more as a case of uninformed.
Deer hunting in Texas especially, is not like the things you described, the fishing or the bird hunting, simply because the unknown variables that make those two sports challenging, have been removed for the most part from deer hunting here in Texas.
Rarely is it a case of if i kill a big buck and more of a case of when I will kill the big buck.
JMO, but I feel that to get an accurate accounting of the state of deer hunting here in the state, you would need to do a series of programs and interview folks that hunt all of the different ways of hunting for deer here in the state, than just those that for what ever reason are able to afford the animals that some folks look upon as records.
What would not even be given the classifacation as a cull on a high fence property, might be the deer of a lifetime off of Public Land.
Think about that, see if your bosses will go for a series of shows addressing the complexities of der hunting here in Texas instead of just doping one on the "trophy" animals that have been killed.
Again, I apologize for any thing I said that offended you, I just feel that there is more to the story of deer hunting here in Texas, than the 10 biggest bucks ever taken in the state.
Yes, you did jump to conclusions.

I appreciate each and everyone of you that took the time to give me some feedback. My audience is mostly going to be Cass County (Atlanta,Queen City etc) and Bowie County (Texarkana, Hooks, New Boston etc) and anyone that listens on the web.
I am hoping to book some interesting guest for next week. I am in contcact with Cabela's (hope to get Dick) and Ted Nugent's publicist (seems like he would be a great interview). Am going to get Ray Scott Jr. for all of you anglers out there- he will be on this week or next. (He founded B.A.S.S. and the Bassmaster Tournament Series along with the Whitetail Institute among other things).
But the show also will keep the local aspect as an integral part...there will be a weekly report on fishing Wright Patman, and I am trying to get Lake O' the Pines and Wright Patman game wardens to each committ to bi-weekly interviews, hopefully they can provide info on their jobs, the dumbest poaching encounters they ran into, and why we can't all shoot 20 commarants every day. The options are limitless.
TXDUCKMAN: these are great questions, -thanks How big was the ranch? Is it high fenced? Do you feed year round? Do you own or lease the land? Did u hunt it or it just appear at the corn and bam?
Appreciate everyone,

Very cool. Call Jack Brittingham. jk, he waters his hunting grounds in Anderson but is a great world wide hunter. Ray Sasser at the Dallas Morning News is a great guy if you can get him. Been writing for 30+ years and hunting all over Texas and more chasing everything that moves. I would really love to hear him sometime. And he has an opinion about everything too! I would love to hear the GW stores. Will you have webcats or podcasts that are saved?? I would download those in a minute if you can get the GW on or anyone with Texas outdoor info besides the usual fishing report (which are still fun while going duck hunting when it is 20 degrees! ). Should be fun.

My dad has personally written questions to Ray Sasser (no e-mails, actual mailed letters) and each time, he has gotten letters back from Ray in the mail. Ray seems to be really nice and a smart outdoorsman.

A couple thoughts:
Since your show is aired in East Texas and you want to keep it local, why not contact a couple of the local hunting contests, ask for their record holders, and talk to those people? I'm sure your audience would enjoy hearing from some East Texans who've killed big deer.
On that note, I was at the Region 5 Texas Big Game Awards Banquet in Athens this past September and there were several big deer from that area in 2007, including one that grossed something like 206. The TBGA website (http://www.texasbiggameawards.com/) should be a good resource for you. Look at Regions 5 and 6 for big bucks harvested by locals.
Jack Brittingham may be a good source for an interview, but you need to keep his hunting in perspective. He gets to play by slightly different rules than the vast majority of your audience. Be sure to talk to others to get ALL perspectives.

over the last few years there have been some big piney wood east texas deer on small tracts. a couple of them were the type of story were they couldn't get to their seasonal lease and stepped out in their back yard and stumbled across a buck of a lifetime.

jeff benson holds the record for the largest non-typical ever in texas, but unless you have a time machine you ain't gonna talk to him. he found the deer dead in 1892.
if memory serves me correct, aidan alvarez holds the record for largest non-typical (low fence) for hunter killed buck. he shot it about 6 years ago on the king ranch
the story on the benson(or brady buck) was that some hunter told him that he had wounded a tremendous buck, and benson went looking for and eventually found it.
it was killed on the ford ranch outside of brady in mccollugh county

Thanks again to everyone.
I am having Ray Scott Jr. on the program today. He founded B.A.S.S and the White Tail Institute of North America.
Also Heath Mcbride of Big Buck Ranch near Brady where the Brady Buck was taken. He will tell a bit about hunting, his ranch, and go into detail about the Brady Buck.
The interview with Ray Scott Jr. will be a 3 part mini series aired each week for the next 3 weeks.
Chris Jennings the comm coordinator of DU will round out the program and discuss the Rescue the Duck Factory Campaign

No he doesn't.
Me and him had a difference of opinion over Cable's post and intentions.
I was in the wrong by pushing things.
Duckkilla is entitled to his opinion, and I should have stopped pushing the issue.
