I have had a problem with a coon getting into my dogs food bin, knocking it over, etc.
I could have killed him one night, but the wife said not to shoot and scare the neighbors, so I let him go with a smack from a pelet gun hoping he wouldnt want to return.
Well, he came back so I set a live trap on the porch.
Last night at 10 Oclock, I heard the trap door slam, took a look outside, he was caught.
I said, well, I'll just kill him in the morning.
I wake up, go outside to take care of him, and he is gone. He tore a big hole in the wire cage. Im guessing the rocket fuel I feed my dog has also made the coon pretty strong lol!
So, do yall think I'll be able to catch him in the same trap again?
Should I move the trap to a different part of the yard (i did have it right next to the dog foor bin on the porch and baited with dog food)?
I'll mend the trap tonight, but next time, Im doing periodic checks in the night, and once he is caught, I am killing him.
Thoughts?

Coons are smart. I would think he wouldn't just make the same mistake again. At least not soon. You might be able to cover is with sticks and grass and camo it a little and he may enter it again. Give it a little extra incentive, say some marshmallows.

I agree with the above post. We trapped 12 of them from under our bunk house, all within a week. They are smart but they also like food. Keep the trap in the same place and bait the crap out of it. You could also use poison inside the trap unless your worried about other barn animals getting to it.

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.
