My Kansas buck from last year.

I am still debating on putting for Mule Deer again since I have been drawn 2 yrs in a row for ML. I do not think I can get that lucky for 3rd time.

I plan on being in Gove and Lane county this year. Havent been in awhile. Time to get back up the the tundra.

Applying for my tag tomorrow. This will be my second year to go to Kansas but from what I hear it is fairly uncommon not to get drawn.

This is correct. I've hunted Kansas for WHITETAIL as a non-resident off and on since 2006 and have yet to not be able to buy a left-over tag online. I caveat for those units with low tag quotas and for mule deer, and buying quickly when the left-overs go on sale in the summer (usually June). Most are bought out within a week or two.

Fortunately, I get to buy resident tags over the counter for the next few years as I currently hang my hat here.

And don't believe everything you see on the Outdoor Channel or hear the Bone Collectors say. There are no deer in Kansas.

Will be putting in for mine soon. Not hard to get a tag in my unit and typically have left over, but not taking a chance.



You would be crazy not to give it another try!!! Have you talked to the rancher? Weather been any better?

I'll be applying as well, I landed a private land connection in Unit 8.

I will probably try for it again just to get the points for Mule Deer if I don't get drawn. The guy I hunted with last year could not believe I got a Mule Deer tag 2 yrs in a row. So 3 yrs in a row is not likely. Not sure if I want to go to hunt just a WT though Since I have to draw a WT tag to get entered into MD drawing. There have been no leftover MD tags in the zones I hunt or surrounding zones the last 2 yrs for Nonres.
Last I talked to him the wheat was doing good but it was just a very bad winter for cold, snow and windchills.

Was definitely a cold winter, but good to hear the wheat is up. Tough zone you hunt in, but worth the trip IMO, even for a WT...take your camera because there is no doubt, if you go up there for WT, the MD will be everywhere!!!

I hunt in unit 17 and 5. My buddy from work has relatives there that set up this hunt with a local farmer/rancher.
