Lora and I just got home from our hunt at the Gene Howe WMA.

Thru many major second guessing manoeuvers on my part, we did not get a shot at anything.

I did see deer, Lora didn't, but I kept making wonderful decisions that kept putting us out of place when we should not have been.

It was a great hunt, including having a 2.5 year old 8 point, check me out at daylight this morning within bow range.

I just did not feel like paying for a deer that I might be lucky enough to get a picture of and have the story appear on the Game Warden blotter for STOOOPID HUNTERS.

Can't remember the exact figures, but the success rate was really good for this type of hunt.

Hey, if you anc Lora had a good time being outdoors and got to do something new it was a success. I do hope you all at least had a good time.

Where is the Gene Howe located? Guess I can probably find it online..

Thanks and Prayers to Soldiers, present and past, for fighting to preserve the freedom we enjoy as Americans!

The Howe is located a few miles northeast of Canadian Texas in Hemphill county.

It is located on the north side of the Canadian River.

It covers 7000 acres + or -, with Farm Road 2266 dividing.

The area north of the Farm Road is in the sand hills, covered mostly with sage and prairie grasses.

The area on the south side of the farm road is all within the Canadian River bottom and is basically all wetlands, with sloughs and creeks and swampy areas all thru it.

It some really unique country.

Deerfeeder as for me and Lora having a good time, we really did.

because of the weather and having to get up so early her migraines were working on here but she held out as long as she could.

I just kept second guessing myself and making DA mistakes or we would have gotten at leat one deer.

This was her first time to hunt up at Canadian, I have hunted there 3 times, once for deer, once for spring turkey, and once for feral hog, and was drawn one other time for spring turkey but was unable to go.

Lora and I did get drawn a couple of years back for a javelina hunt down at the James Daughtrey WMA at Choke Canyon Res., so she is somewhat familiar with the way the program works.

She is not that die hard a hunter but when she does hunt, if a shot presents its self, she does not miss.
