I know there have been a couple of threads on this product, before, but these were at the time when it first came out. Now that we have some experience with it, what do you think? I know someone mentioned in another thread that it was useless, but I hunted with a guy last weekend who said it was great!

Also, shouldn't it be called Butt In? Isn't the idea that you leave the rectum/anus in place along with a tiny length of intestines?

Small, long fillet knife does better.

Are you just saying that or have you actually used the Butt Out? Personally, I already carry a gutting knife and a skinning knife and carrying another knife around isn't something I'd look forward to.

I always laugh when I see this on the shelf...seems like they are everywhere and I know no one that uses them. I also just wanted to get in my 50th post so I can become an "Outdoorsman"!!!!!!!!

I really don't get it. What's so hard about it in the first place? Don't be afraid to touch it gentlemen, you'll still like the girls afterward, I promise. A set of lopping shears will help, just cut the pelvis and you can get to it better.

Cut meat down to the pelvis, then get a hacksaw, and make two cuts through the pelvis, and pull the cut section out, this is so you can have room to get your fingers and knife down in there, and you can cut all of it out with very little work. Hacksaws work great for going through bone, and I would recommend having one handy, like in your truck, or at the deer lease.JMO

Yes, we all know how to field-dress a deer. The question is, for those who have actually used the Butt Out, what did you think of it?

I TRIED IT ONCE LAST YEAR, THREW IT IN THE BACK OF MY TRUCK AND IT'S BEEN THERE EVER SINCE... I GUESS I SHOULD TRY IT AGAIN BUT I CAN GET THE JOB DONE WITHOUT IT FASTER THAN I CAN FIND IT AND FEND OFF ALL THE RIBBING THAT GOES WITH USING IT.

Hacksaws are good if you like a mess, and want a pain....the easy way is to get a pair of Limb trimmers (loppers) and clip both sides of the pelvic bone and remove center...then you can cut sternum for easy access, then after skinning, tailbone, neck, spine, other side of pelvic to separate quarters, and legs below knees, faster easier and cleaner than a saw...by far best tool for doing a deer...
