Thinking this might become a more important topic in the coming weeks, but what do you guys use to keep the skeeters away?

Can pigs detect a thermacell? Is there a better option?

It isn't so much a matter of if pigs can detect something, but whether or not they will respond negatively toward it. Even I can smell thermacell, so then so can the pigs. However, they do not seem to respond negatively to it.

I don't think they respond negatively toward Deep Woods OFF either. I prefer the DRY version.

I use thermacell as well, but in a good breeze or while stalking, it doesn't work very well and does nothing for chiggers.

I think DNS is right. I would add that if the pigs are smelling your insect repellant (or your cover scent for that matter) then they are smelling you as well and you're out of position insofar as the wind is concerned.

FWIW, I don't think that pigs are all that concerned with "inanimate" scents. Petroleum derivatives and other obviously unatural scents don't seem bother them, I personally don't think that the smell of a pig gut pile is particularly alarming to them and I've taken a leak within the broadcast radius of a feeder only to see pigs there like nothing was out of the ordinary 15 minutes later. What seems to alert them (or scatter them) every time is when the wind washes your live scent over them.

What he said..... Pigs will wallow in diesel and I've walked up on pigs and deer downwind of me while smoking. I pretty much had a conversation with a deer a few years back that not only was downwind but even seemed offended that I stopped to watch her. I wish I had it on film because I thought it was quite comical. Maybe it was the no-smoking section of the forest?!?

Use the "Earth Scent" thermacell...smells like dirt! Its what i use and have not had issues. But i only use it sitting in a blind...wont work on skeeters walking around as others have said anyway.

I wish it was winter year round. I hate snakes, spiders, wasps, and skeeters! taz

I had a friend that would spray a rag with off every time he checked his feeder and hang it on a branch close by in order to get them comfortable with the smell. not sure if it works or not? but he was killing pigs. confused2
