The way I understand it is APH permint that is 48 dollars and that gives you rights to hunt on WMA's land. Is this right? Can I buy the WMA at Wal-Mart? Is the WMA the one where they send you booklets of maps or is that a type 2 hunting? Looking at doing some varmint hunting on the sabine river wma is anyone hunting or harvested anything? Thanks Mark

It used to be called "Type2", it's now referred to as Annual Public Hunting Permit - same thing.
You can get the permit anywhere hunting licenses are sold, but if you're planning to go somewhere within a couple of weeks, it's best to go to a TPWD Office and get it. If you purchase the permit at an office, they will give you the map booklet there, instead of them mailing it out. I got my APH at Wal-Mart and never did receive the map booklet in the mail. I finally had to call TPWD and give them my hunting license number to get it sent. They could not give me a reason or explain why I never received it.

I was hog hunting a few weeks ago and jumped 3 yotes on the way out, other than that I have not seen anything else you said. I don't think a lot of guys are varmint hunting there and you should have a great chance to call something up. I am happy to share any info I have on the area but have only been out there twice. Just PM if you want any other info. Matt

Just a heads up, Old Sabine River WMA allows furbearers to be hunted but not predators. Predatory animals (bobcats & coyotes only) are not listed in the legal game box. This is there definition of predatory animals.(bobcats & coyotes ). So I assume fox would be in the furbearer definition which I could not find in the book. I would just call to make sure. Just trying to help out. Good luck.

I guess that explains why I didn't think many people were varmint hunting there. I guess the yotes get a free pass on OSB.

Call the WMA office. could easly be an oversight, since these are non-game animals with no closed season. I would be up to some varmint hunting there. We will call them into our laps "Big Boast" LOL.
Forum says "Veteran Tracker". I could not track a garbage truck into a fireworks factory.
