Any suggestions. Barrel is 24". I know its short, great for dove - not so much for turks. I do have a turkey choke.

One other option - I have a Remington 1100 in 2-3/4" only with a fixed full barrel.

Thank you in advance....

I've always had good patterns with the Winchester Supreme loads in 4s and 6s.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

Deep clean the barrel, go buy an Indian Creek choke, and run some Federal HW 7's thru it. I think you'll be impressed.

Screw In your Turkey choke and listen to Passthru. I shoot the same loads and pattern good out to 50 yards!!

I used the new Winchester XR 3 inch number 5s and my browning BPS loves them.

If you don't have time or desire to pattern it I'd suggest the Hevi 13 mag blends, If you want to spend some money and figure it out try Hevi #7s 6s, Federal Heavy weights #7s/6s, and if you want a great affordable shell check out the new Winchester Long Beards #6/#5s. If you let the bird work and play the game correctly not trying just to get numbers you should be able to kill them with dove loads.. Goodluck!

That Federal HW is a bad hombre. I almost took ones head off at 20 yards Saturday..nothing left but tatters holding it attached. A true Jellyhead.

First and foremost I wouldn't listen to anything Barney Who has to say!

Several years ago I go mixed up with this character after he started posting all these pretty, tight patterns he had shot on the range well...now I'm toting a kid like 20 gauge with pistol grip, holographic sight and a high dollar XXXXXX Full Turkey choke, shooting 5 pound loads of Plutonium-239 #6 x Caesim-137 #9's that cost $60/round and make you glow in the dark.

Until I used horrible judgment by befriending and worst of all listening to said BWho, I shot normal 3" Remington HV #5 Turkey loads thru my M1 Super 90 choked with the factory Full tube and killed more gobblers than you can shake a gobble call at from 40 yards and in. Now I have no money left to actually hunt because it's all tied up in guns, chokes and radioactive shells.

My advise is to buy some Remington HV #5. Screw in your F choke tube. Drink a 24 oz adult beverage and set the empty out there about 30 yards and let one fly. You will be plenty good out 30-40 yards. Now if you are looking to not work a bird in close and want to whack one out there at 75+ yards...BWho's your man. grin

From what I've seen and heard, Hevi-Shot does pattern quite a bit better. I'm not rich enought to pay $3-$5 a shell to experiment with it though. That being said, I've shot all brands, shot size, and length in my multiple 12 guages. If I can get a bird within 30 yards its dead, no matter what I shoot. I think having a extended full or turkey choke is more improtant than ammo.

If you ask my dad, he thinks I'm crazy. He has a old 870 Remington with a modified barrel. He's killed a lot of turkey with it. (Actually, I've never seen him miss a turkey with it) He uses 7 1/2 dove loads in it.

What ever patterns in your gun. I got a 'double' yesterday with my Browning BPS 20ga (bought from a fellow THF member a few years ago)with "Tight' choke and 3" HEVI #6s.

I used a remington 1100 this past weekend to take two nice gobblers. I used a fixed choke with with remington express long range #4. Both turkeys taken between 30-40 yards

You've already got a turkey choke for your M1, so use it. As for shells, it depends on your plan of attack. If you want to test different shells (the best but most expensive option), then let us know which worked best.

But if you're buying shells this week to use this weekend and can't try different loads, take trash2's suggestion and get the 3" Hevi13 Magnum Blend. They're an awesome shell, and Hevi-shot has consistently won national shooting competitions.

Yes they're expensive but how many shells do you expect to shoot in season? And in the end, it's the shell that does the killing, so I don't mind spending a few extra bucks there.
