I got invited to go on a hunt and plan to have a least one processed but I have never shot one. I think it will from a stand but haven't got the particulars yet. I have the following I can take:
Ak SBR in .223 iron sights Ar-15 SBR with aimpoint micro Scar 17s iron sights Mosin nagant with a Nikon 3-9 mil dot Savage .22 accu trigger bolt gun with Nikon 3-9 and is suppressed.
The .22 is a tack driver and I can make head shots on small game at 60 yards but will it kill a hog?

Will a .22 kill a hog? Yes. Would I take it on a hunt? No. From what you list, the one I would grab would be the Nagant. Get some soft point ammo, and take vitals shots. Option number two would be the AR for earhole shots. How accurate is the AR?

AR with DRT ammo would be your best bet IMO

I can hold a 3 inch group at 100 yards with the ar-15.

That is accurate enough. Personally, I would go with the heavier bullet of the Mosin, and take vitals shots, but I know that a lot of guys here stick with ear shots for hogs. Both would be effective for you. Happy hunting!

It be taking the Mosin or the AR. If you intend to shoot body shots, the mosins big ole bullet will perform a lot better. If you will be taking head shots, the .223 will get it done. But id still prefer the bigger bullet.

I'd go with something heavier than a .22 caliber rifle. I don't buy in to that personally. I like .30 caliber rifles for hogs. That's just me though.

Unless you're a crack shot with the AR, I'd go with the Mosin, as it will allow you a body shot as well. Headshots are nice, but often the pigs don't get the memo and may not present you with a good head shot.

I have killed a lot of pigs with the 223 but I never get the warm and fuzzy. I end up taking something a little bigger just so I don't have to be so picky with my shots. That being said take what u shoot the best. AR with DRT ammo would be your best bet IMO I've got 2 boxes that I've been wanting to try. You've had good luck? Seen the them kill an aoudad with em

I know DRT ammo CAN be used to kill hogs, but there are a lot better choices out there. The last thing you want when your hunting is a frangible round. The penetration of a .223 is limited enough with regular ammo. Anything other than a solid head shot and you're probably going to be watching that pig high tail it out of there with a big chunk of flesh missing.
Some better options that have worked really well for me are Federal Fusion, Hornady SP, Barnes TSX, Winchester Power Points. All of which I have bought at my local Academy. No special mail order or anything.

Mosin with a good shot to the vitals. It won't run far; the ear is a good first shot if you're confident in the accuracy.

I would take the one you shoot the best. Personally, IMO, a big rifle is not needed. I've killed pigs with a 17HMR, a .22 and if I ever get uo the nerve to buy me a high dollar air rifle in one of the bigger calibers, I will uae that, just to say I did it.

Probably been more hogs killed with an AR than all the other guns you listed combined. And you don't have to aim for the ear either. Just put a soft point behind the shoulder and they won't go far. If you can find some Barnes Ammo you will even get an exit. They are not as tough as guys make out to be. I kill them while calling Predators all the time and that's with a 22-250 and a 52 grain Berger. I rarely aim for the head.

It is a great frangible round that explodes into a sizable wound cavity. But for hunting you want something that has good expansion, deep penetration, and high retained weight. I would agree that hogs aren't the bullet proof monsters that some seem to make them out to be but make no mistake they are definitely tough animals. Extreme case(s) and point(s): http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4845225/1Results such as these are very rare but they do happen and I prefer to error on the side of caution.

I asked if u had killed any with them for a reason. A guy I know started using them last year and talks about how great they are on pigs. I kill more pigs than most but he is one those guys with no computer and just slays them. I'll shoot 80-100 a year but he will almost shoot that in a month. I Mostly shoot 80 grttsx out of a 25-06. They work good but no blood trail or damage worth bragging about. So again just checking if u had any first hand experience.

I wish I could get out to my land that often. I normally am using an AR with my 16" .223 upper I built from mostly Palmetto State Armory parts. All of my shots are head/ear hole shots so I can't really speak on those bullets perform on body shots on hogs but I have killed deer, lung shots, with the Hornady SP, Fusion, and TSX. All complete pass throughs. My brother has used the Power Points with heart shots on hogs with good results. You should try Fusions. They are a heck of a lot cheaper than Barnes and perform very well. They might be hard to find in 25-06 though.

I use a single shot .357 Mag rifle and drop them in their tracks with ear, neck shots. anything that you are confident in, but I do like the larger calibers. Going by your list it's Mosin hands down. They won't go far, and you have a much larger kill zone!
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Go with the Mosin. A round out of that will drop one where it is standing.
