I didn't want to take away from J.J.'s thread so I thought I would start a new one. The talk about federal possession raised a few questions for me as I thought I understood the laws but now I'm a little confused. Here's what I've found from the website SniperJohne posted.
§ 20.24 Daily limit. No person shall take in any 1 calendar day, more than the daily bag limit or aggregate daily bag limit, whichever applies.
[38 FR 22021, Aug. 15, 1973, as amended at 38 FR 22626, Aug. 23, 1973]
This is the number of birds you are allowed to take per day.
§ 20.35 Field possession limit. No person shall possess, have in custody, or transport more than the daily bag limit or aggregate daily bag limit, whichever applies, of migratory game birds, tagged or not tagged, at or between the place where taken and either (a) his automobile or principal means of land transportation; or (b) his personal abode or temporary or transient place of lodging; or (c) a migratory bird preservation facility; or (d) a post office; or (e) a common carrier facility. [41 FR 31536, July 29, 1976]
This refers to the number of birds you can have on your person when transporting to any of the locations outlined above. Once the birds reach one of the locations outlined above does the field possession end?
§ 20.33 Possession limit. No person shall possess more migratory game birds taken in the United States than the possession limit or the aggregate possession limit, whichever applies.
Does this mean you can’t have more than two daily limits in your possession?
§ 20.39 Termination of possession. Subject to all other requirements of this part, the possession of birds taken by any hunter shall be deemed to have ceased when such birds have been delivered by him to another person as a gift; or have been delivered by him to a post office, a common carrier, or a migratory bird preservation facility and consigned for transport by the Postal Service or a common carrier to some person other than the hunter. [41 FR 31537, July 29, 1976]
This doesn’t say anything about ones personal abode. Does that mean possession doesn’t end when the birds are in your freezer? If that’s the case then in Texas we could only have 10 birds in our freezer at any given time? Do mounted birds factor into possession? What is the daily bag limit and possession limit allowed by the feds for 2008-2009?

possion ends when the duck is no longer in excistance. Which means consumed. So you are only to have 10 in possesion at any given time even if final processed.
You can still give some to a friend as a "gift". Does the term indian-giver make sense?

Ha don't feel bad TPWD got it wrong a couple of years ago in there AO. State was saying your legal possesion limit was higher than the federal limit. Enjoy your liver feast!!!!!! Wonder if several WRD would be a legal cover on this. I think the WRD is a state thing??

Threecurl do you want to be the one who does the honor of sending the e-mail since you would know how to word it better than me.
I'd rather not call any attention to myself considering what may or may not be in my freezer, hahaha.

^^^^^^^^^^
here is a thread on possesion limits
Birddog, thanks for that link. That's what I was understanding it to say but I wanted to make sure. Also, I didn't see anything pertaining to "mounts" counting against your possession. I am going to email them to clarify that.

So if you have breasted out all your birds and thrown the carcasses away how would they identify the species? Also my dad and I both hunt and we have 2 guns in the house, so that means we can have up to 20... right?(Although I don't even think I have had more than 10 anyways) What is the Federal limit? Because I got hunting up there and the limit is 6/day 12 in possession.

I was wondering if a WRD could be used on water fowl and game in the freezer. Would this work for the Federal game laws.
