This is a happy yet kind of sad post for me. I don't remember the exact year my dad killed this buck but it was in the mid to late 80's and I was around 5 or so in the first picture. My dad worked on the Byrd Ranch in Paducah when he killed the buck.

I have had the antler mount that my dad had made with me as I have grown up and have always wanted to have a shoulder mount done. My dad was having health problems in January 2012 and was eventually diagnosed with kidney cancer in March. He had surgery to have the cancerous kidney removed and passed away shortly after the surgery while in recovery. Later that year I took the antler mount to the taxidermist and had him turn it into a shoulder mount.

I am very pleased with how it turned out and I think my dad would have loved it. My 4 year old daughter named him "Butterscotch". I have a couple of other mounts in the house and this is the only one she has given a name grin

Here are the pictures and the mount was done by Dave Dooley at Double D in Rockwall.

Great Tribute to your father. I lost my dad three years ago suddenly. I am restoring his beloved 1973 Boston Whaler. Your dad sounds like an imporant part of your life as was mine.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It made a great tribute to him. Looks like a nice buck and very nice mount.

Looks great! You should get a 8x12 framed photo of that top pic and hang it either under the buck or beside him.

I was actually going to try and get a better quality picture of it and frame it on the original board the antlers were on!!

Awesome Deer!

If ducks had horns I'd probably be a duck hunter.
I am a horrible deer hunter. Probably the worst. Ever.
